Chapter 227
“I can’t believe Sarah has this kind of influence! Lucy paced her room, struggling to process the revelation. All this time. she’d dismissed Sarah as a gold–digger after her brother’s money.
“An heiress? Really?” She scoffed. “I thought her inheritance went to Melvin when her parents died ”
James slammed his hand on the desk. “Have you learned nothing? First Zachary Reynolds, and now the Sanders family? You won’t rest until you’ve destroyed everything we’ve built!”
He massaged his temples, regretting his decision to sign her out of Pyschiatric Hospital. If he’d known she’d cause this much
chaos
“They started it! Lucy protested. “Making ridiculous threats about ruining us in minutes. I couldn’t just stand there!”
“Enough” James snapped, his patience finally breaking Lucy recoiled at his tone, fleeing to her room.
Alone in his study, James stared at his buzzing phone – the Garnetts again, undoubtedly demanding updates about Charlotte As if the company’s crisis wasn’t enough to handle.

The gesture brought back memories of her father’s welcome–home dinners. “Thanks, Uncle,” she said softly.
After dinner and a shower, Sarah scrolled through Instagram and Twitter. The press conference drama had exploded online. exactly as she’d expected.
The comments under #Chancer Scandal were ruthless
@TruthTeller: “Charlotte’s true colors finally showing. Classic social climber exposed!”
@RealityCheck: “Can’t believe we fell for her act. Money can’t buy class!”
@NoFilter “Like brother, like sister. The whole family’s toxic.”
Sarah smirked, knowing the Chancers must be fuming at the public backlash.
The viral photo of Charlotte’s arrest was particularly satisfying. “Just the beginning, Sarah whispered, closing the app.
James would have to act soon. Unlike Lucy’s situation, he couldn’t let his wife sit in jail – his reputation in the business world would never recover.
Sure enough, three days later, James pulled strings. With no charges filed, Charlotte got off with a fine and brief detention- though even that light sentence required Zachary’s tacit permission.
Charlotte would be home today. James must be relieved, Sarah thought, but she knew this was far from over
