Chapter 36
James drove Charlotte back to the Chancer estate.
As soon as they entered, Lucy rushed to greet them, excitedly waving her phone.
“James! You won’t believe what I saw today!”
Lucy thrust her phone in James’s face. “That whore Sarah must have been cheating during your marriage!”
The screen showed a photo of Zachary gently helping Sarah into his car. Whether it was the camera angle or not, the scene appeared oddly intimate.
The earlier irritation resurfaced as James’s expression darkened.
Lucy, completely oblivious to her brother’s mood, continued excitedly, “James, it’s only been days since your divorce. How could she possibly snag another man so quickly? She must have been cheating! How dare someone like her claim part of the Chancer fortune? You need to take back that house you gave her!“.
Noting James’s silence, Mrs. Chancer stepped forward. “James, though we’re wealthy, money doesn’t grow on trees. I know you’re kind–hearted and didn’t want to leave her empty–handed after these years together. But Lucy’s evidence practically confirms Sarah was unfaithful. Someone like her doesn’t deserve any of the Chancer wealth.”
Mrs. Chancer caught Charlotte’s eye, silently urging her to join in persuading James.
Charlotte bit her lip before speaking. “James, could Sarah really be involved with Zachary…”
“Enough.” James cut her off, his thoughts in turmoil. He couldn’t bear to hear more from these three women. “We’ll discuss this
later. I’m tired and need to rest.”
He headed upstairs, leaving the three women staring at each other.
Lucy turned to Charlotte with wide eyes. “What’s wrong with my brother? Did he wake up on the wrong side of the bed?”
Charlotte shook her head, glancing at Mrs. Chancer. She wondered why neither Lucy nor Mrs. Chancer seemed to recognize Zachary Reynolds, who, despite being private, was well–known among East Coast’s elite.
She ventured carefully, “Mrs. Chancer, Lucy, do you know who the man in the photo is?”
Lucy rolled her eyes. “Who cares? What kind of man would Sarah manage to attract anyway?”
Though she had to admit, he was remarkably handsome.
Mrs. Chancer showed more interest. “Charlotte, if you know him, that’s perfect! We can get him to expose Sarah’s infidelity!”
Charlotte quickly shook her head, looking troubled. “I’m afraid that’s impossible. That’s Zachary Reynolds.”
“What?” Mrs. Chancer’s voice shot up. She grabbed Lucy’s phone, zooming in on the man’s face.

It was undeniably Zachary!

She’d been so focused on plotting to reclaim their family assets from Sarah that she hadn’t properly looked at the man. After all, who would have imagined Sarah could be involved with the East Coast’s wealthiest bachelor?
Lucy was stunned, suddenly remembering that Mia had been there too!
With Mia present, how had she not considered that the man might be Mia’s brother?
Mother and daughter were furious.
Charlotte observed their reactions and sighed softly. “James and I saw them today and were wondering about their relationship. Given what Lucy’s saying, it seems Sarah’s landed quite well. Though I wonder if Mr. Reynolds knows she’s divorced?”
Mother and daughter exchanged glances at Charlotte’s words.
True even if Sarah had managed to attract Zachary’s attention, would someone of his status really consider a divorced woman?
