Chapter 40
Lindsey
y gazed at Lucy with admiration, laying on the flattery. “Oh my god, Lucy, your brother’s so sweet! I heard CEOs are super busy, yet he makes time to pick up his sister!”
Lucy preened under the praise, smirking proudly. “Well, of course. My brother totally dotes on me. I’m his favorite.”
“God, Lucy, I’m so jealous! You’ve got the looks, the family background, and such an amazing brother… I’ve never even been in a Maserati!” Lindsey gushed, secretly hoping Lucy would offer her a ride. She could already imagine the Instagram photos making her high school friends green with envy.
As expected, Lucy scoffed dismissively. “Look at you, acting like you’ve never seen luxury before. Fine, I’ll have my brother give you a ride too!”
With that, Lucy strode toward James.
“James, what brings you here today?” she called out in an artificially sweet voice, basking in the attention from passing students.
Sure, she’d always had a private driver, but James had forced her to keep things low–key with just an Audi instead of anything
flashier. What was the point of being the Chancer princess if she couldn’t even show it off properly?
James frowned at her approach. “Why aren’t you home yet?”
Lucy froze, feeling Lindsey’s questioning look. Annoyed but still trying to save face, she hinted, “Come on, James, stop joking. You’re here to pick me–Hey! Where are you going?”
Before she could finish, James brushed past her, striding toward the gate.
“Sarah!”
Lucy turned to see James intercepting Sarah’s path.
So her brother’s rare appearance at her university wasn’t for her at all, but for Sarah?
She glared at Lindsey. “What are you staring at? My brother’s here on other business. I’ll let you ride in the Maserati next time. Have I ever broken a promise?”
Lindsey privately rolled her eyes but plastered on a simpering smile. “Of course I trust you, Lucy! But why is your brother looking for Sarah? Didn’t you say he couldn’t stand her?”
Lucy recalled last night’s events, figuring James must believe Sarah had cheated during their marriage and was here to reclaim
the house.
She smiled coldly. “Never mind why he’s here. Whatever it is, it won’t end well for Sarah! Soon enough, I’ll have another luxury villa in my name – much bigger than Mia’s penthouse downtown!”

Sarah frowned at the man blocking her path.
She hadn’t understood him during their marriage, and she understood him even less now. Ironically, she’d seen more of him since their divorce than during their marriage.
She felt nothing but contempt for the Chancers now.
“Mr. Chancer, you’re in my way.”
Though Sarah wasn’t short for a woman, James still had to look down to meet her eyes. His gaze was conflicted. “You never used
to be so harsh.”
Sarah almost laughed. She looked up at him, her eyes devoid of emotion. “Does Charlotte know you’re here? When we were
together, you couldn’t forget Charlotte. Now that you’re with her, suddenly you can’t leave me
alone?”
