Chapter 52
Sarah snapped out of her thoughts when he spoke.
“No need for thanks. Just remember you owe me one,” he said causally.
Sarah stopped walking, knowing that owing Zachary a favor wasn’t simple, but she would definitely repay it.
Sarah paused mid–step, realizing that a favor owed to someone like Zachary wouldn’t be easy to repay. Still, she nodded firmly. “Mr. Reynolds, don’t worry. I always repay my debts. I don’t know what I can do for you, but as long as you ask, I’ll give it my
all.”
Zachary’s lips curved up, his eyes twinkling mischievously like a fox’s, both charming and dangerous.
Looking at his expression, Sarah felt a ripple of unease.
She had a feeling she’d walked right into his trap.
Unable to figure it out, she pushed the thought aside and walked him out. After such a huge favor, it would be rude to just leave
him there.
Back at the Chancer house, Lucy stormed in after school, throwing her things at the maid, her face sour as if she’d swallowed
something bitter.
“Mom, what happened today? Why did Zachary help that bitch? Do you know how humiliating this is? Everyone’s calling you a
monster–in–law!”
“You think this is my fault?” Mrs. Chancer was equally upset, still seething over the day’s events.
“If Zachary hadn’t shown up, I would have gotten Sarah fired. Instead, he helped her and threatened us! If he pulls our family’s
shares from Adams, your brother will have our heads!”
She’d planned to pressure the school, but Zachary had turned the tables. Continuing the fight would only hurt them and the
Chancer name.
They had no choice but to back down.
“So what do we do now?” Lucy couldn’t forget her classmates‘ contemptuous looks. She wanted to crawl into a hole. As a
Chancer, this shame reflected on her too.
Usually, people treated her with respect and flattery. Now they dared to mock her – how could she stand it?
Before Mrs. Chancer could respond, the door opened, and Charlotte walked in, her expression as soft and gentle as ever. She
carried several shopping bags and paused, puzzled by the argument she had overheard. It’s an unusual sight that the usually
harmonious mother–daughter duo seemed to be at odds.
“Mrs Chancer, Lucy, what’s wrong?” Charlotte asked softly.

“Whatever it is, we can solve it calmly. Why fight? Look, I bought you both some bags and jewelry. Do you like them?”
While mother and daughter genuinely liked her, Richard remained lukewarm despite his polite words and gestures.
So she had to win these two over completely, ensure they stayed firmly on her side.
She would become part of the Chancer family, no matter what.
Both women’s eyes lit up as they eagerly took the bags, carefully opening them.
“You’re so thoughtful, Charlotte. Just thinking about that awful Sarah makes my blood boil!”
