Sarah maintained an air of calm confidence, as if none of what had just happened involved her. William couldn’t help but give her a second glance. In contrast, he cast a look of disdain at Lucy, whose schemes seemed too much for someone so young. The Chancer family was truly in shambles, he thought.
“This won’t do! We can’t involve the authorities! Lucy’s future will be ruined!” Mrs. Chancer’s face flushed with panic.
Desperate, she turned to Sarah. “Sarah, you can’t do this to Lucy! After all, you were once her sister–in–law. Don’t be so heartless! Besides, you weren’t really hurt, were you?”
Sarah’s gaze hardened as she stared at Mrs. Chancer. Her tone was sharp. “Did Lucy think about how well I treated her when she decided to do this? She made her choices, and I’ve already given her chances to stop.”
Sarah’s unwavering determination sent a wave of panic through Lucy. She hadn’t expected her actions to be exposed so quickly or
that Sarah would have recorded evidence. Tears streamed down her face as she grabbed James’s arm.
“James! You have to save me! I can’t go to the police!”
Lucy knew Zachary wouldn’t help her. Her only chance now was James.
But before she could plead further, the door opened, and Charlotte walked in. Lucy’s panic morphed into desperation as she
pointed at her. “It was her! It was my sister–in–law who told me to do it! I never wanted to go this far! It was her idea! She told me
that if Zachary caught Sarah with another man, he’d finally see her true colors and stop protecting her!”
All eyes turned to Charlotte.
Sarah’s expression was calm, but James’s gaze narrowed.
“Lucy, what nonsense are you spouting?” Charlotte’s eyes darkened as she looked at Lucy. She walked over to James’s side and
spoke softly, her voice tinged with guilt. “James, it’s my fault. Lucy’s right. She mentioned wanting to deal with Sarah, but I
didn’t take it seriously. If I had stopped her, Sarah wouldn’t have been hurt.”
Seeing her understanding demeanor, James glared at Lucy. “Always causing trouble! Charlotte would never do this. Lucy, I’ll help
you, but stop dragging others down.”
Sarah, watching Charlotte’s calculated display of innocence, spoke up coldly. “So, Miss Garnett, are you saying it wasn’t you who
intentionally tripped the waiter and spilled wine on Mia’s dress?”
Charlotte’s expression faltered. How did Sarah know?
“I don’t understand what you’re accusing me of,” Charlotte said, feigning confusion
Without a word, Sarah handed her a phone displaying a photo Steven had taken. “Are you going to claim this photo is edited?”
Charlotte’s eyes widened in realization. Sarah had been holding evidence all along. Her heart raced, and she clenched her fists so tightly her nails dug into her palms, the pain helping her keep her composure.

Charlotte immediately walked over to Mia, her tone filled with remorse. “Miss Reynolds, I owe you an apology. It wasn’t
intentional. I accidentally stained your dress before the banquet started, and I was too scared you’d blame me, so I didn’t say
anything.”
Mia quickly stepped behind Sarah, not wanting anything to do with Lucy. “I don’t believe a word you say! How do I know it
wasn’t on purpose? Maybe you and Charlotte were working together to hurt Sarah!”
Charlotte, while desperate to distance herself from the situation, knew she couldn’t outright offend the Chancer family,
especially Lucy and her mother.
She forced a polite smile. “Miss Reynolds, I assure you, I’m telling the truth.” Turning to Sarah, she added delicately, “I believe
Lucy didn’t mean any harm. After all, Sarah and Zachary seem very close now, and considering Sarah was once Lucy’s sister–in-
law, it’s natural for her to feel uncomfortable.”
Her words, carefully chosen, sounded considerate, but the subtle jab at Sarah’s past was unmistakable.
