Chapter 9
“I, I should
go now.
I felt a bit flustered.
The belated realization and harsh reality made me afraid to look at William too much.
It’s fine–good friends can just be friends from now on.
But just as I turned around, a large hand grabbed my wrist.
William said in an ambiguous tone:
“Kayla, why are you running?”
“I have things to do.“.
“What things? You don’t have any classes today, and you quit your club a while back–I even went with you to quit. At this time, you’d normally go back to your dorm to catch up on sleep. What could you possibly have to do?”
“I already told you to mind your own business.” I awkwardly tried to pull my hand free.
But William gripped tighter, and the smile on his face faded.
He looked at me with deep, penetrating eyes.

“You know I like you, don’t you?”
My gaze instantly wandered, unfocused and evasive.
William was smart–he started pressing me based on my expression.
“How did you find out? I never told anyone.” He paused. “And why do you always stare at my forehead? Is there something on my forehead that proves I like you?”
He probably remembered that day in the cafeteria when I’d questioned him about dreams, and later asked for his opinion on wet dreams.
His Adam’s apple bobbed twice.
“Dreams? You can see me dreaming about you? Those kinds of dreams?”
William’s expression was complex at that moment–nervousness and embarrassment intertwined.
But his gaze remained fixed directly on me.
I closed my eyes in resignation, nodded, and squeezed out a complaint in a voice barely above a whisper:
“Yeah… I can even tell how intense your dream was last night.

William, you’re really shameless.”
Getting a definitive answer, William’s expression stiffened slightly.
He took a deep breath and quickly composed himself.
“Sorry, I can’t control it.”
“How can you not control it?”
“If I could control my dreams, that would be a sign of schizophrenia.”
I said nothing.
He had a point.

I stopped struggling at that moment, just turned my head away to avoid eye contact.
“Fine, I’ll pretend I don’t know about this, and you don’t need to feel guilty. Besides, you won’t be dreaming about me anymore anyway.”
William clicked his tongue and mimicked
my tone:
“I’m going to keep dreaming. What are you gonna do about it?”
I glared at him furiously.

“Have some shame! Dating other girls while having wet dreams. about me–what a player!”
“When did I date another girl?”
“Last night.”
William looked me up and down, taking in my aggrieved and dejected expression. His eyes lit up, and he suddenly smiled.
“So now that you’ve figured it out, you’re getting jealous, aren’t you?”
