I raised my head, my gaze fixed directly on him.
“Blake, the divorce application has already been approved by the Family Services Office. From the moment the document takes effect, our marital ties are severed.”
“From now on, you go your way, and I’ll go mine.”
“You and Ashley, enjoy your life together.”
With that, I didn’t spare him another glance. I turned, cradling my son.
Liam walked silently beside me, shielding me from the curious stares.
“Skylar! You stop right there!” Blake’s unwilling roar came from behind me. “You think you, a woman with baggage, can survive without me? You’ll regret this!”
I didn’t look back.
Regret?
The biggest regret of my life was foolishly jumping into the hell he, Blake, had dug in my past life.
Thankfully, now, I had finally climbed out.
Liam rented a house for me in the county. I was penniless, so the money was a loan from him.
“Liam, thank you. I promise I’ll pay you back the moment I earn enough!”
Liam shook his head, looking at me seriously. “It’s fine if you don’t. I didn’t know you were living in such hell. I thought you were happy. I’m sorry…”
The unspoken depth in his words startled me, but I dared not dwell on it.
Right now, I just wanted to focus on raising my son. Everything else could wait.
Liam helped me find a sales assistant job at the county department store.
Because of Liam, I was allowed to bring my child with me to work.
That is, until I saw Ashley walking through the department store, arm–in–arm with Blake. They spotted me from afar.
Blake’s face immediately darkened. “So that’s why you dared to divorce me – you found a job. Didn’t your boy toy help you with the kid?”

Blake’s face immediately darkened. “So that’s why you dared to divorce me – you found a job. Didn’t your boy toy help you with the kid?”
I scoffed. “What’s it to you?”
Blake gritted his teeth. “What’s it to me? The child in your arms is our family’s! Shouldn’t you give him back to us?”
His words made me want to laugh. I looked directly at Blake. “Our family’s child? Blake, how can you even say that?”
“Wasn’t he ignored by your family from the moment he was born?”
“He had a fever in the middle of the night, and I was alone in that cow shed, trying to bring his temperature down. Did any of you ever come aut to check on us?”
Blake froze, gritting his teeth, his face turning a dark shade of black.
Ashley, clutching Blake’s arm, looked at me sweetly, her voice soft and fragile.
“I’m so sorry, Skylar. It’s because I have trouble sleeping that they didn’t go out. Please, don’t be angry with Blake.”
I chuckled softly. “Oh, I’m not angry at all. After all, he has nothing to do with me anymore. From now on, the child is all mine. There’s nothing to be angry about with a father who’s as good as dead.”
Blake was startled. He looked at the newfound sense of release in Skylar’s eyes and suddenly felt a pang of fear.
He inexplicably felt that she truly no longer cared about him.
Blake clenched his jaw. “Have you really thought this through? Are you going to live with that boy toy Liam? He’ll eventually resent you for having had a child!”
“When he throws you out, what will you do then?!”
“If you come back now, I might still forgive you!”
His words were harsh, but I just stared at him.
“Liam is a good man who helped me. I have no relationship with him, just like I have no relationship with you!”
