Chapter 18 The Trap
“You’re kidding, right? Middle of a busy street, and someone just
took her?” Keenan said, stunned.
The manager’s voice cracked with urgency. “Mr. Avery, I saw it
happen. She’s gone. What do we do?”
Keenan’s mind went straight to the look on Calbert’s face when
he saw Seryna. That was love at first sight.
So Keenan decided to step in and help him win her.
“Get search teams out now. I’m sending backup.”
“Got it. I’m already on it,” the manager replied.
Seryna was taken to a basement, her wrists and ankles tightly
tied with rope.
Three men stood nearby. She didn’t need to ask to know
Jeremiah was behind it.
Greedy and cruel, he had broken her hand and ended her life
with a blow in the last life.

This had all happened before. He did it to punish her for Tehila.
Tehila cried, made it theatrical, and he believed every word.
But this time, Seryna was ready. She had waited a month for
this moment. His bad decisions were coming home to roost, and
this was the start of his downfall.
Jeremiah was brutal with his enemies, but arrogant. And that
was his weak spot.
Seryna had earned Devona’s favor with steady progress. When
offered a reward, she only asked for a few decent gowns.
She made sure Natalie came with her to shop, already knowing
the kidnapping was coming.
Last time, Seryna kept quiet and swallowed her pride. This time,
she was going to make Jeremiah’s life hell.
She faked a panicked look, her voice shaking. “Who are you?
Why are you doing this?”
The fat guy smirked and winked. “Thought you weren’t scared.
You sat in that van like a statue. Guess you were too scared to
speak, huh?”
She played along. “Please. I don’t know you. I haven’t done

anything. Why would you take me here?”
“Wow. You don’t know? That makes two of us.”
She stared at him with her flat, cold eyes. “Then maybe we will
all die together.”
He let out a sharp laugh, grabbed her hair, and started leering at
her.
“Nah, I’m not dying today. I know why you’re here. That guy
told us to break you.””
Without warning, he slapped her hard across the face.
Seryna gasped in pain.
The fat guy rubbed his hands together, grinning as he studied
her face. “Soft skin. Bet you taste sweet too.“”
She shot him a look of disgust, calculating. Natalie was probably
just minutes behind when the van took off.
He leaned in close.
Seryna whipped her head aside.
Then came the sirens, loud and echoing from every direction.

The three men panicked.
“What the hell? Cops?” the fat guy exclaimed.
She smiled. “Surprised? You guys just walked into the trap.”
He stared at her, rattled by her triumphant smile.
“You crazy bitch. What’s that supposed to mean?”
His bad breath made her grimace.
“Yeah, cops. It’s a bit late to start asking questions, isn’t it?” she
said with a wicked smile.
