6 Chapter 6
In the past, the moment he saw Madison looking even slightly wronged, Alexander’s heart would soften, and he would grant the girl’s every wish.
But now, he frowned and coldly pulled Madison’s hand away, saying with unconcealed
impatience,
“You’re not coming back with me. I’ve already arranged everything with the hotel manager. Hell handle your accommodations for the next nine days.”
Her eyes
widened in disbelief as Madison stubbornly choked out,
“Why can’t I go back?
Is it because of Blair? Because she looks down on me, and you can’t bring a girl from my background to your high–society wedding? Is that it? So now I can’t even go home?”
After her tearful accusation, Madison lifted her chin, ready to throw herself into his arms for comfort, but was met instead by a pair of ice–cold eyes.
“Madison, who told you that you were entitled to attend my wedding with Blair?”
Getting into the back of the Lincoln, Alexander busied himself with forwarding me his flight information. Without even sparing Madison a glance, he said,
“Before you return, remember to submit your resignation email to HR.
I don’t want Blair getting upset with me again because you’re there when she comes to the company to see me in the future.”
Having said all that needed to be said, the man ignored a completely stunned Madison and rushed to the airport without a backward glance.
After the long journey back to New York City,
The first thing Alexander did after finding my new address wasn’t to come see me right away.
Instead, he went to Bergdorf Goodman on Fifth Avenue and bought every gift, big and small, that I had spent years playfully asking for but never received.
Then, he went to Sotheby’s auction house, spending hundreds of millions of dollars to purchase a one–of–a–kind jewelry set once worn by Princess Diana in my name. He then filled the backseat of his sports car with the jewels and an abundance of vibrant roses.
After all that, Alexander still felt it was nowhere near enough.
But the thought of how angry I was–so angry that I had actually talked about breaking up…
…made him unable to suppress the unprecedented anxiety churning in his gut. He floored the

gas pedal, racing toward my new apartment on the Upper East Side.
Finding the front door unlocked, an overjoyed Alexander pushed open the bedroom door,
A smile gracing his lips, he was just about to call my
But what greeted him was the sight of me and his own brother, Nicholas, tangled together completely naked.
The flowers and gift boxes in his hands crashed to the floor.
Alexander was completely dumbfounded:
“What… are you two doing?”
Before I could even react, Nicholas had already swiftly tugged the blanket over me, doing his best to cover me completely.
But even so, from the hickeys that littered my back, Alexander could see just how passionate things had been.
His vision went black, and he nearly fainted.
Blood seeped from between his fingers where he gripped the doorframe.
“Blair, answer my question.”
Faced with the man’s stubborn interrogation, I blinked innocently:
“Alex, why are you here?”
“Why am I here?…
Alexander laughed, a sound so full of rage it seemed he might grind his back teeth to dust:
“Yeah, why am I here…
Let me think about that. Oh, I remember now.
I’m your one and only boyfriend of the last ten years.
And I’m also your goddamn first love and fiancé, the man you’re about to marry!
…
So, Blair, I think the real question is, why the hell is Nicholas in your bed?!”
Before I could speak, Nicholas eagerly cut in, a smirk playing on his lips as he spoke to Alexander.
“Blair and I had our wedding yesterday, and we’re officially registered.”
“We’re husband and wife, Alex. Sleeping in the same bed is kind of the point.”
After a pause, Nicholas’s eyes crinkled with a slight smile as he continued.

“Alex, while it’s true we’re not full brothers, we do share the same father. Technically, you should be calling her your ‘sister–in–law‘ now”
The words “sister–in–law” were like an invisible club, striking a heavy blow to Alexander’s aching heart, which felt so constricted it had nearly stopped beating.
He walked toward me, his gaze vacant.
*Blair, he’s lying, right?”
“How could you possibly be willing to marry him?”
“You’re just messing around with him to get back at me…”
Just as Alexander’s hands reached for my shoulders, I shoved him away with a scowl.
“Why wouldn’t I be willing?”
“Nicholas has spoiled and protected me since we were kids. No matter how busy or tired he gets, he always remembers all my important dates and finds countless ways to make me happy.”
“A man like him–a wonderful man–proposes with a ring worth a fortune, and does it with his whole heart. Of course I was a hundred percent willing to marry him.”
Hearing this, Alexander’s eyes went bloodshot as he forced a hideous smile and said,
“Blair, stop messing around:
“Seriously. There’s a limit to my patience!
“Stop telling lies like this. Are you trying to drive me insane?”
