chapter229
After speaking, he downed his drink.
Elvin watched him, taking only a small sip.
The visitor wasn’t embarrassed. Instead, he turned to look at Bianca and tentatively asked, “Mr. He, who’s this beauty beside you?”
Elvin glanced at Bianca. She was quietly peeling chestnuts, a strand of hair covering her profile as she sat there like a painting. He found himself momentarily lost in thought.
Snapping back to reality, he told the visitor, “Unlike previous companions, she’s my goddess–the woman I’ve dreamed of having.” Elvin openly declared Bianca’s importance to him before others.
Hearing this, the visitor realized Bianca meant everything to Elvin and quickly flattered, “You’re a lucky man, Mr. He”
Elvin smiled faintly. “Only if I win her over will it be good fortune.”
Though Bianca didn’t join their conversation, she heard every word clearly. She grew more bewildered, unable to fathom why Elvin treated her this way.
Noticing her expression, the visitor hastily bowed to Bianca. “Miss, let me toast to you.”
Elvin reached out to stop him. “Sorry, my baby doesn’t drink.”
Bianca finally turned around. “I can drink,” she told Elvin. Lifting a glass of red wine, she clinked glasses with the visitor and drained it.

Impressed by her gesture, the visitor praised her before slipping his business card on the table and leaving.

After he departed, Elvin moved his chair closer to Bianca’s. Studying her intently, he asked, “Are you unhappy?”
Bianca kept peeling chestnuts without looking up. “Not unhappy. Just… nothing worth being happy about.”
Seeing her despondency, Elvin pressed, “Then tell me what you like.”
The chestnut in her hand seemed undercooked, its shell stubborn. She gave up, placing it on the table.
Meeting Elvin’s gaze, she said earnestly, “I like ordinary, uneventful days.”
Surprised by her modest desire, Elvin quickly responded, “I can give you that.”
Bianca offered a faint smile. “Elvin, how many from wealthy families truly live simply? You’re no exception.
Elvin looked down at his hands, then extended them before her. “If that’s what you want, these hands can bring you luxury or till soil for your garden.”
Bianca studied his hands–elegant with distinct knuckles and long fingers. Dazed momentarily, she still smiled. “Elvin, a mountain bird and a fish can’t share the same path. We belong to different worlds.”
Elvin grew agitated, ready to declare he’d abandon status and wealth, but before he could speak, someone called from behind.
“Elvin.”

This time, a woman’s voice.
His eyes darkened as he took a deep breath before turning. Bianca also turned her gaze toward the approaching girl.
She’d seen this girl before–the one who accompanied Elvin to the event last time.
Not just at the event, but also in the car, where Elvin had touched this girl’s thigh.
Recalling this, Bianca lowered her gaze, pressing her lips into a thin line.
Someone like Elvin was destined for more than ordinary life.
Seeing it was Ashley, Elvin reined in his temper.
Ashley twirled before him, asking sweetly, “How about it?
Do I look nice today?”
Elvin glanced over before nodding. “Yeah, beautiful.”
“Got dressed up just for you,” Ashley stated bluntly.
Hearing their exchange, Bianca straightened up and quietly slid her chair farther away.
“Thoughtful of you,” Elvin chuckled.
Ashley sat beside him, linking arms eagerly. “When dinner starts, will you sit with me?”
Elvin looked down at her hand on his arm, frowned as he pushed it away, then smiled. “No, I’ll be sitting with my sweetheart.”

He turned toward Bianca.
Noticing she’d put two seats between them, his brow furrowed. He leaned over, grabbed her chair, and pulled her back beside him.
