Chapter 23
As the guest of honor, Blair didn’t say much. Bianca quietly ate, only raising her glass when it was her turn to toast. When they clinked glasses, she lowered her head and focused on her meal.
After a round of toasts, Virgil turned to Bianca. “Dr. Watts, I have to thank you on behalf of the children. Since you’ve been here, their visible health problems have been taken care of. You’re like a second. mother to them. Please, accept this drink. It’s to thank you for all your hard work over the past two months.”
Bianca smiled faintly and picked up her glass. “Mr. Kent, you’re being too kind. I’ve just done what I can.”
Two months?
‘So, Bianca has already been here for two months?
‘That means she hasn’t followed the car here after all.‘
Blair glanced at her. She was dressed simply, with just a light touch of makeup, but still looked stunning.
She had been worn out during the years she was a full–time mother, but now, seeing her again, she had a quiet elegance about her.
After setting her glass down, Bianca didn’t look at Blair once.
It was as though he was just a stranger to her.
At that moment, someone placed a peeled shrimp into Bianca’s bowl. She looked up and saw it was Dwain Larsen.
Do M
Having been at the school for two months, Bianca had gotten to know most of the teachers.
Dwain was elegant and scholarly in appearance, and his smile made his eyes shine with warmth.
Bianca smiled back. “Thank you, Mr. Larsen.”
Virgil, ever observant, quickly asked, “Dr. Watts, are you married?”
Her question was direct, and Bianca responded just as openly, “Yes, I’m married. I have a daughter.”
Blair, watching from across the table, saw Dwain pass Bianca the shrimp and noticed her smile at the other man.
He wasn’t sure how to feel. For a brief moment, his mind went blank.
When he came to his senses, he heard Bianca mention that she was married and had a daughter.
For a fleeting instant, a brief spark of happiness flashed in his chest.
Blair also noticed the sudden flicker of disappointment in Dwain’s eyes, which quickly disappeared.
At that moment, Bianca added, “But I’m getting a divorce soon.”
But Blair didn’t hear her, as his phone rang with a video call.
As he answered, his eyes briefly flicked to Dwain, and the spark that had disappeared from his gaze seemed to flicker back to life.
What had Bianca said?
Just as he was wondering, Winnie’s sweet voice came through. “Daddy,
13
where are you?”
Blair didn’t try to hide anything and answered the call right at the table. As he looked at Winnie’s face on the screen, his expression softened unconsciously as he said, “I am in town. I’ll be back tomorrow. Diane will come stay with you, and you’ll sleep with her tonight.”
Blair’s gaze drifted instinctively toward Bianca, who was talking to the man next to her, her face framed by a gentle smile.
“Okay, Daddy,” Winnie replied obediently.
Just as the call seemed to be ending, Blair added, “Mommy’s here too. Do
her?” I want to talk to
It was natural for a father to take a video call from his daughter, but when Blair mentioned that “Mommy” was there, everyone at the table immediately turned their attention toward him.
There were other women at the table besides Bianca. So, who was he referring to as “Mommy“?
No one dared to ask, but everyone was clearly curious, their attention. fixed on the conversation.
On the other end of the call, Winnie’s voice came through, sounding displeased. “No, I don’t want to talk to her. I’m still mad at her. She didn’t apologize, so I’m not forgiving her.”
The room fell into silence, and Winnie’s words were loud enough for everyone to hear.
