chapter231
With that, Ashley ran off.
Elvin didn’t chase her. Instead, he turned Bianca’s stool to face him, forcing eye contact.
He stared at her, tone sharp: “Why were you avoiding me?”
Bianca gazed at his handsome face. Instead of answering, she said: “That’ll hurt Miss Lee.”
Elvin replied: “When I love someone, I must reject others.”
Bianca paused before murmuring: “Elvin, I’m married. I don’t know what you-”
Elvin cut her off by stuffing a grape into her mouth: “Stop talking.”
Bianca chewed the grape, turmoil churning inside.
Soon, an announcement invited guests to the banquet hall.
Jacob had arranged reserved seating for VIPS.
Thus Blair and Elvin’s group got assigned to one table.
Each table seated ten. Bianca’s table held Blair, Elvin, Graham, Diane, Rudolph, Elijah, Adam, Davis…
The last seat remained empty as Jacob assigned no one else.
The banquet table overflowed with diverse dishes.

Nine people sat divided into two opposing factions.
Silence reigned as everyone ate quietly.
Diane sat between Blair and Elijah, both serving her food so she barely lifted a finger.
Occasionally, Graham would serve Diane choice dishes too.
The opposite group pampered Diane meticulously.
Meanwhile, Bianca sat between Elvin and Davis, both keeping busy.
Elvin peeled shrimp into her bowl: “Baby, try these just for you.”
Though meeting Bianca for the first time, Davis disliked the opposite group’s showiness. He wrapped roast duck for her: “Future sis–in–law, try this roast duck. Perfectly seasoned, delicious.”
Throughout, Rudolph and Adam stayed out of this silent battle.
Although not involved, they were all secretly observing.
Diane ate slowly and elegantly across the table, occasionally glancing up at Elvin. She noticed how attentive and caring he was toward Bianca.
Yet despite this, Diane couldn’t help thinking: Elvin praised her so much this morning; surely he liked her.
Perhaps his kindness to Bianca now was just to pique her interest?
As the meal neared its end, Elijah finally raised his glass. Looking at Blair and Graham, he delivered formal remarks: “Blair, Graham, this toast is for both of you. Thank you for trusting Johnson Group with your company’s substantial cash flow.”

At these words, Bianca immediately looked up at Blair.
Across the table, Blair met Elijah’s gaze, listening intently.
He showed such patience with Elijah, yet toward her… all these years, Blair had never been patient.
Recalling Blair’s promise that night to entrust her brother with the company funds, it dawned on Bianca: How much truth had been in his words?
He’d clearly stated Johnson’s financial platform wasn’t mature enough for such business.
Yet now, he’d granted it anyway.
Regardless of the process, the outcome remained unchanged.
Seeing Elijah propose the toast, Diane also lifted her glass. She told him: “Brother, as long as you perform well, Blair won’t let you down.”
Elijah smiled at Diane: “I should thank my sister for finding me such an excellent brother–in–law.”
Diane lowered her head shyly, cheeks tinged pink.
Blair gazed at her affectionately before adding to Elijah: “We should thank you too, for having such an extraordinary sister.”
Elijah Huffman felt a faint swell of pride at Blair Avery’s compliment.
He straightened his back, clinked glasses with Blair, and murmured, “My sister’s a bit mischievous and spoiled by the family. If she ever does anything to upset you, Blair, just tell me. As her brother, I’ll make sure to discipline her.”

Diane Huffman tugged Elijah’s sleeve. “Oh, come on! I’m not that bad!”
Elijah turned, patting her head. “We grew up together. I know you better than anyone.”
Diane ducked behind Blair, shaking his arm with a pout. “Blair, look how he picks on me!”
