So she dismissed the old man’s words as nonsense.
Maybe parts held truth, but that didn’t make him right.
Elvin grew inexplicably anxious when Bianca remained silent for so long. “Baby, did that fortune–teller say something upsetting?”
He’d indeed asked the old man to tell Bianca that he was her destined
partner.
But having not been present, he didn’t know how the man had phrased it.
He feared the old man might’ve misspoken and upset Bianca.
Her face cold and unresponsive, Bianca’s stony silence only deepened Elvin’s worry.
Pivoting on his heel, he muttered, “I’ll go ask what nonsense he spouted. How dare he upset my baby!”
His thunderous expression startled Bianca. She hastily grabbed his hand. “Elvin, stop this. I’m fine.”
“Then tell me what he said.”
Elvin pressed relentlessly, demanding every detail.
Bianca refused to reveal the actual words. Instead, she fabricated, “He claimed I’d die young and be a jinx to husbands. Said I shouldn’t remarry after divorce–it’d harm others and myself.”

Before she finished speaking, Elvin abruptly pulled her close. Gently tapping her lips, he urged urgently, “Spit it out! Quick, spit out that awful luck!”
Bianca hadn’t expected such fierce concern from him.
Stunned, she froze speechless.
Elvin grew more frantic at her stillness. “Bianca! Spit it out now! You’re killing me here!”
Finally meeting his gaze, she whispered, “Spitting won’t change facts. Some things are unchangeable.”
Uncertain what the fortune–teller actually said, Elvin took her words as truth.
Seeing her resignation, he crushed her against his chest. His chin rested in the crook of her neck as he vowed hoarsely, “Bianca, even if you’re a husband–jinx, I’ll marry you. If your life’s short, I’ll give you mine. I want you as my wife. I want no one but you.”
His embrace tightened until she nearly suffocated.
Yet his words echoed the fortune–teller’s prediction–that Elvin was her true match.
Come to think of it, Elvin truly was decent.
Despite tabloid scandals, Bianca had never seen him with any woman except Ashley Lee.
She stopped struggling, allowing him to hold her trembling frame.
Just as she prepared to confess her lie, her phone rang.

Releasing her, Elvin rasped, “Answer it.”
Bianca glanced ‘up, noticing his red–rimmed eyes.
Unsure if he’d cried, her heart clenched at the sight.
The phone kept ringing, and she picked it up to see it was Katelyn calling.
Bianca hesitated but answered anyway.
Katelyn’s anxious voice came through: “Ma’am, I finally reached you! I’ve been calling sir nonstop, but he won’t pick up.”
Hearing Katelyn’s urgency, Bianca furrowed her brow. “What’s wrong?”
Katelyn said: “Winnie has a fever. When I checked on her upstairs, she was drenched in sweat. I took her temperature–it’s 104°F.”
Bianca panicked instantly but calmly instructed: “Katelyn, give Winnie fever meds first. I’ll be right back.”
Katelyn agreed: “Okay, got it.”
Bianca added: “Call me anytime if needed. I’m going to find Winnie’s dad.”

Katelyn said yes and hung up.
Elvin overheard Bianca’s conversation, his mood unraveling in seconds.
Seeing her distress, he asked worriedly: “Are you heading back?”
Bianca said: “I need to find Blair.”

She turned toward the Wish Candle shop.
After two steps,’ she paused and glanced back at Elvin. “Go home first. I’ll stroll with you next time.”
Her words inexplicably lifted Elvin’s spirits.
But remembering her broken promise to marry him, his cheer vanished.
Bianca had no time for Elvin’s mood. After her assurance, she left.
Elvin followed anyway.
Bianca retraced her steps and spotted Blair selecting trinkets with Diane.
She marched over, grabbed Blair’s hand, and said: “Winnie has a fever. Come with me to take her to the hospital.”
