chapter268
Unconvinced, Elvin leaned in, pressing his forehead against hers. Only when he felt no abnormal heat did he relax.
As he drew near, Bianca instinctively shrunk back, squeezing her eyes shut.
Just as Elvin began to pull away after confirming her temperature, his cheek accidentally brushed against her fluttering eyelashes.
Every muscle in his body tensed instantly.
Elvin looked down at those trembling lashes–thick as feathers— grazing his skin like a brush against his heart. That tingling, electric sensation prickled across his entire body.
Bianca radiated warmth. Elvin knew her fever hadn’t fully broken, yet gazing at her lips and flushed face, he felt himself drowning.
Half–leaning over her, he couldn’t bring himself to move away.
Mesmerized by those captivating lips, Elvin heard himself ask, “Bianca… may I kiss you?”
Uncharacteristically, he hadn’t called her “baby,” and he’d actually sought her consent.
Bianca sensed genuine vulnerability behind his question.
Her heart lurched strangely, followed by waves of fear. She opened her eyes, meeting his with defensive wariness. “Elvin… no.”

At her refusal, Elvin forced himself upright.
Bianca could feel the rigid restraint coiling through him.
He shut his bloodshot eyes, sitting motionless in the chair for several seconds before slowly reopening them.
He looked at Bianca, and Bianca looked back at him. The two locked eyes in silence, neither speaking a word
After what felt like an eternity, Elvin suddenly asked, “Are you hungry?”
Bianca did feel hunger pangs. She nodded softly. “Yeah, a little.”
Elvin said, “I’ll have food brought over.
Bianca nodded again, closing her eyes.
She felt both chilled and feverish–utterly wretched.
Seeing her discomfort, Elvin rose from his chair and sat on the edge of the bed. He took her hand. “Want me to hold you while you sleep?”
Weak and aching, Bianca couldn’t tell if she was hot or cold. She opened bloodshot eyes to look at Elvin, her voice rasping like sandpaper. “Elvin, I’m fine.”
Her face was deathly pale, yet she remained stubborn.
Ignoring her protest, Elvin touched her neck. Her skin felt cool, devoid of sweat.
Fevers brought alternating waves of chills and heat.
Worried, Elvin shed his coat and climbed onto the narrow hospital bed

-barely a meter wide.
Tall and cramped, he curled his legs awkwardly, pulling Bianca into
his arms.
Half his body hung off the mattress, exposed to the air.
Still, he didn’t complain. Cradling her against his chest, he nestled his chin in the curve of her shoulder, lips brushing her ear. “Bianca, still cold?”
Seeking warmth, Bianca instinctively burrowed deeper into his embrace.
Only then did she realize how violently she trembled.
Feeling her shift closer, Elvin tightened his hold, sharing his body heat.
Through thin fabric, he felt the swell of her body against him. His face flushed crimson, as if about to explode.
Unaware of his reaction, Bianca kept nuzzling his chest.
“Elvin,” she murmured drowsily, “could you hold me tighter?”
The request slipped out in her haze.
Elvin crushed her to him with bruising force, as if trying to fuse their bodies.
Warmed by his heat, Bianca pressed her cheek to his pounding heart and drifted into oblivion.
Only when her breathing steadied did Elvin slightly relax his grip.
Knowing she still shivered, he cocooned them both tightly in blankets.

He remained frozen in place, cradling her.
Even when his arm went numb, he refused to move.
Half an hour later, Bianca stirred and pulled away from his embrace.
Elvin gazed down at her serene little face–unusually docile in his
presence.
This rare tranquility made him ache to kiss her.
