chapter279
Diane gently stroked his hair, whispering, “Get some rest.”
His tense body relaxed. “Okay.”
Eyes closed, he drifted off.
But as Diane sat there with Blair beside her, her thoughts drifted inexplicably to Elvin.
He’d called her his dream girl. So why was he so nice to Bianca?
After Elvin’s fussing, Bianca Watts was too exhausted to argue with him.
He claimed to be her lover, and she couldn’t be bothered to correct him.
Still feverish, Bianca felt utterly weak.
Exhausted to her limit, she slipped back into unconsciousness.
But when her eyes fluttered open again, Lynette Watts‘ face filled her vision.
Having removed her makeup, Lynette’s features lacked their usual sharpness, yet her flawless skin and natural beauty remained captivating.
Seeing Lynette, Bianca couldn’t help but think of Winnie Avery. Her eyes red, she asked, “Sis, how’s Winnie?”
Tucking the blanket around Bianca, Lynette replied, “Elvin inquired

about her. Her condition’s stable now, so don’t worry too much.”
Relieved, Bianca nodded. “Okay, got it.”
Lynette dabbed sweat from Bianca’s forehead with a tissue, murmuring, “Elvin’s gone home. I’ll stay with you tonight.”
At the mention of Elvin, Bianca froze briefly.
Come to think of it–how could a pampered heir truly stoop to tasks beneath a man’s dignity?
Warming the bed, washing underwear…
She should just take those words lightly.
After taking fever reducers, Bianca felt clammy. Burrowing under the covers, she hoped sweating would restore her energy by morning.
Before sleep, Lynette sat bedside flipping through a magazine.
Deep into the night, Bianca awoke shivering.
Her eyes opened to an involuntary tremble.
A gentle voice brushed her ear: “Cold?”
It was Elvin’s voice.
Bianca thought she hallucinated, but turning her head, she actually saw Elvin’s face.
Instantly bewildered, she asked, “Why are you back?”
Smoothing the quilt over her, Elvin grinned. “I’m your lover. Where you are is where I belong.”

Bianca frowned tightly at his words, clearly displeased.
Afraid of upsetting her, Elvin explained, “I forgot to clarify with your sister–in–law. I only went back to shower–didn’t say I wouldn’t return. Plus, she needs to care for Kellie. So I sent her home. You… won’t blame me, will you?”
Seeing the worry etched on his face, Bianca’s heart clenched. Her voice softened as she said, “Elvin, thank you.
A smile instantly brightened Elvin’s features. Knowing she was cold, he asked, “Should I hold you while you sleep?”
He was fulfilling a lover’s most basic duty.
But Bianca’s face flushed crimson. Instinctively refusing, she said, “No,
I’m not cold.”
Respecting her refusal, Elvin conceded, “Then sleep. I’ll rest my head here. Call if you’re cold–I’ll join you anytime.”
Bianca stayed silent, simply staring at Elvin.
Though rejected, he seemed oddly pleased.
Resting his head beside her, he smiled sweetly twice before drifting off.
Elvin was tall, so when he leaned over the hospital bed, his whole body was curled up uncomfortably, let alone getting proper sleep.
Bianca Watts had already slept twice and now found herself wide awake.
She turned her head to look at Elvin, his handsome face angled toward her.

She saw him clearly–that beautiful face now marred by tightly knitte
brows.
Knowing he couldn’t sleep well, Bianca gently nudged his shoulder and called, “Elvin.”
Elvin opened his eyes drowsily, his voice raspy as he asked, “Baby, what’s wrong?”
Bianca scooted over slightly and said, “I’m a bit cold. Come up here to sleep.”
Though she was worried about Elvin’s discomfort, her words masked it as her own need.
Without hesitation, Elvin climbed onto the bed. He wrapped his arms around Bianca from behind, resting his chin in the crook of her neck.
