After freshening up, he attempted to style her hair. Though unpracticed, he managed a simple low ponytail.
Once finished, Blair began feeding Winnie porridge.
Midway through, he suddenly asked, “Winnie, do you miss Mommy?”
At the word “Mommy,” Winnie instinctively frowned before shaking her head.
Seeing her troubled expression, Blair didn’t press further.
But the next moment, Winnie looked up at him. “Daddy, where’s Aunt Diane?”
Blair smiled tenderly, ruffling her hair. “Aunt Diane stayed with Daddy watching over you all night. She left this morning. She wanted to stay until you woke up, but I asked her to go to school first.”
Hearing this, Winnie wiggled happily. “Daddy, Aunt Diane is so good. to me! She loves me most after you!”
Blair chuckled without replying, simply pinching her cheek. “Eat first.” Radiant joy replaced the pallor on Winnie’s face.
Seeing his daughter’s happiness, Blair thought his lie had been worth it.
Though Diane hadn’t actually been at the hospital last night, she would have wanted to be.

After Winnie finished eating, Blair tidied the insulated food container.
Handing it back to Katelyn outside, he suddenly said, “Katelyn, watch Winnie for me. I need to make a quick call.”
Katelyn took the container. “Of course.”
Before leaving the inpatient ward, Blair stopped at the nurse station to inquire which department treated adults for fever and pneumonia.
After getting the answer, he headed straight to the Respiratory Medicine department.
After some thought, he decided it would be appropriate to check on Bianca.
At the nursing station of Respiratory Medicine, Blair asked for Bianca’s bed number again. The nurse informed him Bianca was in a VIP room.
Blair thanked her and made his way toward the VIP ward.
Upon locating Bianca’s room, he heard Davis’s voice inside: “Bianca, look! I brought you a little cake, some fruit, oh–and bubble tea! Besides that, I got you some comic books. See which one you like?”
Through the transparent glass window, Blair peered into the hospital
room.
Bianca leaned against the bed rail, Elvin sat beside her peeling an orange, while Davis perched at the foot of the bed, proudly displaying his offerings.
Blair had intended to enter, but seeing the other two men inside, he suddenly felt his visit was unnecessary.
He’d worried no one was looking after Bianca, yet here she was with

Inside the hospital room, Bianca Watts leaned against the bed rail.
Davis had spread his offerings across one corner of the bed. After showcasing them, he looked at Bianca expectantly, waiting for her choice.
Seeing his enthusiasm, Bianca couldn’t bring herself to disappoint him. After serious consideration, she pointed at a small cake. “I’ll have this little cake.”
Hearing this, Davis immediately picked up the cake and handed it to her.
“Sis, you love these little cakes so much. You must be really sweet yourself.”
Davis teased, a faint smile playing on his handsome face.
Beside them, Elvin slowly peeled an orange, his movements gentle and careful to avoid tearing the skin.
Though his focus seemed on the fruit, his peripheral vision stayed fixed on Bianca.
Since last night, he’d sensed something off about her, but her constant coolness toward him left him puzzled.
Even now, with Davis here and Bianca smiling, Elvin still felt something was strange.
Then again, Bianca barely knew Davis.
Responding to Davis’s joke, Bianca smiled. “Mr. Davis, you do have a way with words.”
The formal address made Davis frown slightly. He blinked at her. “If you don’t mind, Sis, you could call me Davis or Dave, like Elvin does.”
