chapter 290
“No need,” she insisted, thrusting the coat into his hands when he finally reached for it.
Without hesitation, Bianca turned and walked away.
Her retreating figure blurred into memories: Bianca greeting him at the door, taking his briefcase and coat, adjusting his tie before work, bringing warm tea during late nights; drawing his bath after exhausting days…
During their rare cohabitation, she’d attended to his every need with meticulous care.
She’d once craved his affection so desperately.
He remembered vividly–her rushing to him with tear–streaked cheeks after scalding her hand, whispering, “Blair, blow on my finger? Please?”
Back then, Blair Avery glanced at Bianca Watts before saying indifferently, “I’m not a doctor. Just have Lila apply an ice pack for you.”
He probably caught the disappointment in Bianca’s eyes, but at that time, he never cared.
Just like now–though clearly unsettled himself, Bianca paid him no mind either.
Watching her walk further away, Blair finally called out, “Bianca, wait up.”
Hearing this, Bianca stopped and turned, “Something else?”
Blair said. “Katelyn’s bringing lunch at noon. Care to join me?”
Bianca declined, “No need. Someone’s delivering mine.”
With that, she walked off again.
Blair stood frozen, staring at her retreating figure.
He felt strangely unsettled, yet couldn’t pinpoint why.

Simultaneously, he wondered: When Bianca said someone would deliver her meal… was it Elvin?
Or Berry?
That night, Jenna Sawyer had an event to attend, so she left when the Watts family arrived.
Lynette Watts didn’t come tonight; Elroy came instead, bringing dinner.
Since Bianca Watts was hospitalized, Elroy hadn’t visited once.
Tonight marked his first time at the hospital.
Having grown up together, Bianca knew Elroy as stern and unpredictable, a man of rigid routines.
Though familiar with her brother, Bianca still felt uneasy alone with him.
Propped against the bed rail, she slowly ate the meal Elroy brought.
Elroy sat in a chair, peeling an orange.

After placing the peeled fruit into a small container, he wiped his hands. and looked at Bianca. “Where’s Elvin?”
Elvin had carried Bianca out of the house that day.
When the whole family rushed to the hospital and learned it was just a fever. Elroy sent their parents home.
He’d wanted to question Elvin’s presence at the Watts estate, but Lynette stopped him, ordering him to leave, without explanation.
Elroy understood Lynette’s motives.
These past two days, despite his worry, he’d stayed away.
Not that he didn’t want to visit he feared seeing Elvin might provoke him to violence.
Besides, Lynette opposed his coming.
At Elroy’s question, Bianca froze mid–bite, shrinking back. “He went home.”
Elroy’s voice dripped with scorn. “Can’t even handle two days?”
Bianca set down the insulated food container, picking up an orange slice.
“He’s an Elvin,” she said quietly. “Born into a different world from
ours.”
Beneath Elroy’s sarcasm lay genuine concern.
Watching his sister, he softened. “I don’t oppose you dating, but find someone grounded. Better than wealthy families‘ illusions. Your sister- in–law keeps praising that Elvin–I see nothing special. If he bolts after

two days, how can he care for you lifelong?”
Bianca smiled faintly. “Don’t worry, brother. I won’t rush into love again.”
Elroy’s heart ached for her.
Years married to Blair Avery must have brought her pain.
Why else would his gentle sister seek divorce?
The thought filled him with chagrin at his own helplessness.
If only he were stronger.
He forced a smile, eyes tender. “Personally, Berry Schwartz seems decent. You’re both doctors, families match. If he ever hurts you, my slap would reach his face in ten minutes.”
Bianca laughed. “Brother, Kellie says she’ll support me. Can’t I just stay unmarried?”
