Chapter 13 Jakob’s Origins
“I’m the last to know you’re back home? How could you be so cruel to me, Ellie? After my affection for you all these years?”
Hearing the voice, Eliana knew it was Jakob Harrell, her third brother.
They weren’t related by blood, though. Jakob was abandoned after he was born, and the Harrell family took him in.
Eliana was reviewing files, and she didn’t even lift her head. “Sit. Don’t get me distracted.”
It had been three days, yet she still hadn’t sorted out the files Trystan’s secretary had given her.
She answered almost a hundred calls from the company’s business. partners from different countries and was on the verge of a breakdown.
Jakob didn’t mind being treated so coldly. He sat on the sofa and said, “Trystan is so cruel. He actually left all these files with you? It seems he wants you to take over the company. You’ll be exhausted. Hey, why don’t you come on tour with me? It’ll be so relaxing.”
“Nope, thanks.”
Still organizing, she said, “I remember what happened when I went to your concert last time. One of your fans actually thought I was your girlfriend. Thanks to Trystan, who showed up in time, or the egg she attacked me with would have given me a concussion.”
“You still remember that?”
Jakob chuckled. Wiping his lips, he looked at her with a grin. “Stop denying it and say you’re not interested in me. You clearly remember

everything when we hang out.”
Feeling a wave of speechlessness, she looked up and rolled her eyes at him. “You need help.”
With a half–smile, he said, “Only you can help me.”
She rolled her eyes again.
Honestly, she was used to having similar conversations with Jakob and didn’t feel uncomfortable at all.
Jakob had loved singing since childhood and was now a world–known singer.
His schedule was full every day, but he always prioritized everything
related to her.
Back then, when she had been set to marry Xavier, if it weren’t for Trystan, he would have canceled his upcoming concert right away to fly to Steelville to fight with Xavier.

Now that she thought about it, she was baffled–of all the nice. had insisted that Xavier was her one and only? What was she thinking?
“I gotta take this.”
Her phone buzzed again. She glanced at the screen and saw an unknown number.
Jakob fell silent, watching her as she walked over to the floor–to–ceiling window to answer.
“Hi there. Is this the new GM assistant of Apollo Group? About the Hogan Group being disqualified from taking part in Plymbourne Medical Exhibition, maybe we can…”
It was Micah.

Trystan had mentioned that calls from the Hogan Group’s landline would be blocked, so Micah used an unknown number.
Of course, he did this per Xavier’s instructions.
“I’m afraid there’s nothing to discuss. The Hogan Group failed to meet the pledged donation amount. I believe my predecessor has already talked to you about it,” she said truthfully in a professional tone.
Xavier thought the Hogan Group was qualified? It was merely because she had put in a good word for him.
“Eliana?”
Micah was dumbfounded.
They had worked together for so long that he recognized her voice at
once.
She didn’t deny it or confirm it. “I’m busy. Goodbye.”
After hanging up the phone, she exhaled.
She bet Micah had called her right in Xavier’s office.
She was a bit disappointed that she couldn’t see the look on Xavier’s face right now.
And she was right. In the CEO’s office of the Hogan Group, Micah handed over the phone to Xavier in great disbelief. “Mr. Hogan, the new GM assistant of Apollo Group… Judging from her voice, I think she’s Eliana… Why… Why is she there?”
Xavier pulled a long face. He wasn’t deaf and of course, recognized Eliana’s voice.
Before the call, Micah had reported to him there wasn’t a little bit of her parents‘ information in that village at all.

In other words, everything Eliana had said about her family background
was a lie.
She had lied to the Hogan family for three years!
“Mr. Hogan, about the exhibition, are we still gonna…”
Noticing the sullen look on Xavier’s face, Micah wasn’t sure if they were participating or not.
“Call her. Again.”
Xavier pressed his lips into a thin line.
Micah held the phone, slightly slack–jawed.
