Chapter 20 Done Being Foolish
Xavier’s face twisted in displeasure. He had never expected Eliana to do something like this. Ever since proposing the divorce, she had become. more and more outrageous, slipping out of his control.
He said in a low voice, “You actually slapped a pregnant woman? I guess I underestimated you. You’re so vicious.”
Eliana arched an eyebrow and said nonchalantly, “Yeah, that’s me.”
Any explanation wouldn’t be necessary.
She continued coldly, “If you’re done, piss off.”
“Watch your tone, Eliana.” Xavier’s gaze deepened with an icy glint.
“What is it? You think I’m gonna apologize to you humbly again?” Eliana sneered mockingly. “You’re delusional.”
“Xavier, it hurts…”
Hearing Karina’s pitiful, aggrieved cries, Xavier lowered his head.
Tears streamed down her right cheek, which was already red and swollen. With a pale face, she seemed utterly weak and might pass out at any second. Yet, she protected her belly with her hand firmly.
He frowned. “I’ll take you to the hospital now.”
Then he bent down, picked her up, and walked out. The onlookers immediately made way for him.
After a few steps, he stopped and said to Eliana behind him, “I’m gonna make you pay the price if anything happens to Karina’s baby.”

“Ellie slapped her. That’s all. What could possibly happen? She can’t be that fragile, can she?” Katelynn standing next to Eliana rolled her eyes in exasperation, having the urge to point at Xavier’s nose while cursing. “You coward! Don’t leave! Let’s settle this once and for all!”
“No need to waste your time on them.” Eliana persuaded her.
The smile on Eliana’s face faded as she watched Xavier’s back.
Katelynn wrapped her arm around Eliana’s shoulder. “Babe, don’t tell me you still have feelings for that douchebag.”
Eliana scoffed, “I’d never make the same mistake again.”
She had been a complete fool during the past three years.
Karina’s act was so lame, yet she had Xavier wrapped around her finger so easily. How did he not smell the fakery? How ridiculous.

On the way back to the hotel, no one said a word in the Rolls–Royce.
Xavier glanced at Karina, who was asleep, and started to review a project. proposal.
Brianna in the passenger seat broke the silence, saying furiously, “I’m so glad to hear the doctor say Karina’s baby’s fine. Or I swear I’m gonna make sure Eliana regrets it!
“That bitch! How dare she act so arrogantly? She actually disrespected us! I bet she had found herself a sugar daddy on her last business trip to Plymbourne.”
Xavier pulled a long face, finding her voice nothing but shrill. He pulled out his tablet and tossed it onto her.
“Take a look at this before you continue.”

Picking up the tablet, Brianna saw that it was the surveillance footage from Vesper Club. Under his gaze, she panicked at once, not even daring to meet his eyes.
“Why did you provoke her?” he said in a cold tone, keeping staring at her intently.
“I didn’t mean to. I was just so mad!
“She acted like she loved you so much, and all of a sudden, she wanted at divorce? And I bumped into her having fun in a club here in
Plymbourne… I just wanted to stand up for you…” Brianna’s voice trailed.
off.
He interrupted, “She didn’t even have much reaction when hearing your nasty insults. Don’t tell me you’ve said things like that to her more than once.”
Being forced into a corner by his questions, which only grew sharper, she raised her voice to mask her uneasiness. “You saw how Grandma doted on her when you were at home, right? It’s like she was Grandma’s granddaughter. Mom might nag her about having kids occasionally, but no one ever provoked her!”
Xavier’s expression grew darker.
Brianna was right. The atmosphere at home had always been harmonious when he was around, and no one had ever gotten into a conflict.
Realizing Eliana might have suffered those years, he texted her.
Eliana was chatting with Katelynn in bed.
Just then, her phone dinged.
She picked it up, and in the next second, the words on the screen made
her unsure whether to roll her eyes or laugh out loud.
