Chapter 24 We’re Both Blind
“Who are you to me? Why should I tell you?” Eliana rose leisurely, raising her eyebrows with disdain.
Xavier suddenly realized he had no right to question Eliana anymore. They were divorced.
In a sudden shift of thought, remembering that Eliana’s body and heart had once belonged entirely to him, yet now she was in the arms of another man, he narrowed his eyes slightly, an unknown jealousy surging within him for reasons even he couldn’t fathom.
“What was the real reason for the divorce?” Xavier’s voice was cold and
sullen.
A cold, mocking smile appeared on Eliana’s red lips. “It’s been so long. Is there any point in asking that now?”
She met Xavier’s deep, dark eyes unwaveringly. “There’s only one real reason. I’d had enough!”
Xavier said, “What exactly upset you?
“For the past three years, you were well provided by the Hogan family and even held an important position in my company. What’s so different about your life now?”
Xavier paused slightly as he spoke, recalling Eliana’s attempt to make love to him the night before the divorce.
“Was it because I refused to make love to you?”
He refused her because of a lingering resentment. Eliana had once called out another man’s name in her sleep. Proud as he was, he had maintained

a sexless life with Eliana from then on.
Eliana let out a soft chuckle. “What a funny idea!”

“Then I’ll satisfy you now.” Xavier strode quickly toward Eliana, reaching out to cup her face and attempting to kiss her.
Smack!
Eliana shoved him away and slapped him fiercely.
A burning sting spread across his cheek. Xavier gritted his teeth with fury in his eyes, feeling utterly bewildered by the woman before him.
Eliana’s eyes grew misty, and her chest heaved with anger.
This fool actually thought that was the reason she left!
What in the world had she ever seen in Xavier?
Eliana collected herself and said, “For the past three years, you only saw what you wanted to see. You’re blind.”
There was mockery in her icy eyes. “But I was the blind one first. I shouldn’t have expected you’d be moved by me and then start to love me.”
“From now on, you go your way, and I go mine. Don’t pester me again.” She picked up the watch and brushed past Xavier, adding, “Please sign the divorce papers quickly. If you keep dragging it out and refusing to divorce, I’ll get a lawyer and sue you.”
As the door slammed shut, Xavier stood frozen, unable to react for a long
time.
He kept thinking of Eliana’s red eyes. He seldom saw that wounded look on her face. He sank into deep thought.
Had their three–year marriage truly been as unhappy as Eliana claimed?

Eliana lifted her dress and ran to the balcony.

Leaning against the railing on her elbows, she watched the silent Plymbourne Sea, breathing deeply as the warm night breeze swept over
her.
A handkerchief appeared to her right. “Dry your tears.”
She turned to see a handsome man with striking features.
Tall and lean, the man wore an impeccably tailored suit. His warm, amorous eyes glinted as he flashed a bright smile at Eliana, revealing his white teeth.
When Eliana didn’t take the handkerchief, Kelton gently dabbed her tears with it. “It’d be a shame if such beautiful eyes swell from crying. How about I cry for you instead?”
When he came to the balcony, he spotted the intriguing beautiful woman
from the auction.
Under the starlight, the beautiful woman stood alone in a red gown with tears on her face. She carried an aura of fragile, heartrending solitude.
Attracted by the sight, he went up to her before he realized it.
His teasing words amused Eliana, who laughed and took the handkerchief to wipe her eyes.
“Hi, I’m Kelton Gallagher, CEO of the Gallagher Group. Nice to meet you,” he introduced himself. “Thanks for bidding up that emerald bracelet earlier. I’ll repay your kindness another time.”
Eliana’s smile vanished instantly.
Kelton Gallagher? He was her enemy!
