Chapter 9 She Won’t Cave
The atmosphere in the CEO’s office instantly became freezing.
In the past, Eliana had always talked to Xavier with utmost caution.
It was the first time she had faced him so defiantly and coldly at work.
Xavier’s expression darkened at once.
“Is that true, Xavier?” Karina asked while leaning closer to him. Frowning almost imperceptibly, he replied. “Of course not.”
He said ruthlessly, “It’s like what she says–a lot of talents work for me. Why would I hold onto her passport? She’s merely a secretary.
“But, Eliana, since you’re resigning, there are certain rules you have to follow. Leaving in the company’s uniform without completing the handover violates company protocol.”
It was only now that Eliana realized why Xavier had forced her to come here by holding her passport.
She either stayed or left with nothing.
She couldn’t believe he’d actually use such a tactic to make her give in. He must have been a hundred percent sure that she’d cave.
He completely crushed the last bit of dignity she had.
Karina said, “I see. Then, Eliana, it’s indeed your fault.
“I almost thought there was something going on between you and Xavier…”
Chapter She Went Cave
As she was about to nestle deeper into Xavier’s arms, Eliana took a deep breath, took off her black blazer, and unbuttoned her blouse one button at
a time.
“I’ll take it off,” Eliana said concisely.
Xavier was right. Since she wanted to resign, she should obey all the company’s protocols so as to put an end to everything.
The office fell silent.
Karina gawked at her in disbelief.
Meanwhile, Xavier had already had his head slowly lowered, and his eyes. were tinged with a trace of lust. Upon hearing Eliana’s words, he was stunned, too.
Over the past few days, he clearly sensed Eliana was nothing like before.
He couldn’t quite put his finger on that feeling–it was like she wanted to shake off his control entirely.
She was slipping through his fingers.
Or… maybe he had never truly known her, though they had married for three years.
What happened in the CEO’s office quickly spread as many gossipy employees gathered at the door. They had always thought Eliana was gentle and easy to talk to and were all stunned at her tough side.
She actually took off the uniform in public just to resign.
Eliana took off her blouse, and the only piece on her–a white tank top accentuated her nice curves.
Those on the other side of the door were all amazed. “I had no idea.
Eliana’s this fit!”

“Me neither. The company’s uniform is all oversized. Who could have told?”
Micah’s slap put an end to their chatter. “You don’t have work to do? Why are you all gathering here? One more second standing here, and you can kiss your salary goodbye!”
They exchanged glances before scattering right away.
After they left, Micah glanced inside through the blinds. In fact, he was
curious too.
He thought, “Mr. Hogan has never given a resigning secretary a hard time. Is there a misunderstanding?”
In the office, Eliana shuddered because of the cold air.
She endured it and lifted her head slowly.
“Mr. Hogan, can I have my passport back now?”
Worrying he’d come up with another excuse, she added, “As for the handover, I’ll email Micah after I’m settled. If it still bothers you, I’m OK with you withholding my salary from last month.”
Xavier realized she was determined to make a clean break with him.
His eyes grew deeper and icier as he was overcome by an inscrutable emotion while facing such a resolute, tough Eliana.
