Chapter 6 Paying the Price

I made my way back to the backstage area, where Cadell was still waiting in the same spot, his eyes fixed on the glass of fruit juice that had been spiked

When he saw me return, his tense expression relaxed slightly. He handed me the drink again, his tone softening as he said, Aurora, I’m your soontobe husband. I would never hurt you. Next time something like this happens, can you at least talk to me first? I don’t want to be the subject of gossip.”

I couldn’t help but let out a sarcastic smile

He wouldn’t hurt me

Did he really think I wouldn’t see through him

Here he was, offering me a glass of laced juice

Seeing my smile, a flicker of discomfort passed over Cadell’s face. He pushed the drink towards me again, his voice softening. *I’m sorry, Aurora. Can you forgive me? I’ll take care of this and make sure there’s an explanation. I’ll make things right.”

I stared at the glass, watching as Cadell stubbornly placed it in front of me. It was clear he wasn’t going to let me refuse

A hint of disdain flickered in my eyes, but I took the glass, bringing it to my lips and taking a sip right in front of him

The tension in Cadell’s face immediately melted away. He watched me intently, his voice a little more coaxing as he asked, Don’t you want to drink more?”

I frowned, acting repulsed. I don’t like the taste. We’ve been together for seven years, and you still don’t know my preferences?”

Cadell opened his mouth as if to insist, but quickly closed it, swallowing whatever words he had been about to say. I could see guilt written all over his face

He didn’t push me to drink more. Instead, he sighed and said softly, Let me take you back to our room. The wedding is off now. You should rest, and after I’ve settled things with the guests, I’ll come explain everything to you.”

I nodded. Perfect. My plan was about to unfold

Cadell let out a breath of relief and guided me back to the room

He seemed preoccupied with consoling Lorna, so he didn’t say much to me before leaving

That worked out perfectly

As soon as the door closed behind him, I moved to the bathroom. I spit out the juice I’d taken in and flushed it down the toilet..

I didn’t want to sit on the bed. Just seeing those familiar sheets made me think of the disgusting sight of Cadell and Lorna

tangled up in that video

Just a glance was enough to make me want to throw up

I turned away and sat down on the couch, pulling out my phone to message Edmund

Aurora: Are you ready

Edmund replied quickly

Edmund: Of course. I did as you asked yesterday. I put incense in the jewelry Lorna always wears, and I had someone bump into her just now. The incense is releasing now. It won’t be long before it starts taking effect

Reading his message, I couldn’t help but smile coldly

Everything was going according to plan

Now, I wanted to see how Cadell would explain himself

I settled back on the couch, patiently waiting

Half an hour later, I heard a sound outside the door. The doorknob turned gently

I quickly leaned back and pretended to be asleep

I wanted to see what Cadell was planning after going through all this

trouble to d**g me. What would be his next move

The footsteps outside grew closer. Although I kept my eyes shut, I could feel the person stop just by my side, as if watching me. I could almost feel their gaze on me, assessing my state

A moment later, I heard the sound of Cadell’s voice on the phone

She’s asleep, Mr. Hartman,”

Cadell’s voice, still full of excitement, came through clearly. Perfect! Bring himActually, no. I’ll be there shortly”

The person outside answered respectfully and walked away

As soon as the door clicked shut, I opened my eyes

Bring him

Who was Cadell planning to bring in

Was he really preparing to offer me up to someone else

A bitter laugh bubbled up inside me. Seven years of love, and it had come down to this. To Cadell, our time together was nothing

but a tool for his whims

He’d cheated without hesitation, and now, it seemed, he was ready to share me with someone else

Geez, I wasted seven years on this piece of s**t??

I took a deep breath, trying to steady my racing heart

I was grateful for the email Cyril sent me. Without it, I wouldn’t have known what was really going on.

As my thoughts swirled in frustration and anger, Cadell finally arrived

Seven years, and my feelings for him had always been real. I could even recognize the sound of his footsteps

He stopped for a moment in front of me and softly called out, Aurora?”

I didn’t respond. I didn’t even move a muscle

Relief washed over him, and he sat beside me with a smirk. I could hear the false sweetness in his voice as he said, Aurora, I never wanted to do this to you, but you’ve been so ungrateful. Everything was going fine, and you had to ruin it all by making

scene

Ungrateful? Me?!

I almost laughed at his words. Had he expected me to tolerate his cheating, to just accept the situation and let Lorna move in

with us

After all these years, I never imagined Cadell could be so shameless

I felt his hand brush against my face, his fingers tracing the contours of my jaw as if he were admiring me. The touch made my

stomach turn

You really are beautiful,” he murmured. No wonder he picked you.”

He?My heart skipped a beat. Who was Cadell referring to

Before I could process this, I heard footsteps coming closer. Lorna’s sweet voice followed. Cadell, I’ve been looking for you everywhere. What are you doing here?”

She came closer, the familiar scent of her perfume wafting through the air

Iwas likely the same scent Edmund had used in the incense

Cadell immediately pulled his hand back from my face. What are you doing here?”

Before he could finish his sentence, I heard the unmistakable sound of kissing, followed by a soft moan

I swallowed my disgust and thought to myself, Edmund’s incense really worked. It hadn’t even been long, and Lorna was already completely overcome by desire

Cadell’s breathing grew shallow. Stop, Lorna, we have things to do.”

Lorna, in her usual seductive tone, replied, Aurora will be out for a while. Don’t you think it’s more exciting to do this in front of

her?”
