Chapter 45
Sally was just about to hear how Brad would respond when a voice from behind interrupted her. “Mrs. Zale, why didn’t you let me know you were coming?
She turned at the sound and saw Nathan standing there. She hadn’t even noticed when he’d shown up.
Naturally, the two people inside the room heard the commotion at the door as well.
Lena, clearly annoyed, slid off Brad’s lap and asked in a low voice, “Nathan, who is out there?”
“Mr. Zale, Mrs. Zale is here. Is this a good time…” Before Nathan could finish, Sally pushed the door open.
Brad looked up to see Sally walk in, calm and collected, and sit right down on the sofa.
“Mrs. Zale, what are you doing here all of a sudden?” Lena said, her voice full of irritation. “This is Brad’s office. Just barging in like this isn’t really appropriate, is it?”
Sally shot her a frosty look. “So 1, his legal wife, can’t come in, but you, who have no proper status, can?” She turned and glanced at Lena, her tone ice–cold.
Lena bristled. “What’s that supposed to mean, Mrs. Zale? Who are you saying has no proper status?”
Sally shrugged, her voice still cold. “I didn’t name any names. If you think that’s about you, that’s your problem, not mine.”
“That’s enough, Sally, Brad quickly stood up and walked over. “What do you want?”
“Have her leave. I want to talk to you alone.” Sally’s tone was icy, her expression completely indifferent.
Brad’s face darkened. “Lena isn’t an outsider. What can’t she hear?”
“But she’s not your wife, either. We’re the ones who are actually married. I want to talk to you in private. Do you really need her here?” Sally’s voice grew even colder. “If you let her leave a little faster, maybe next time you won’t have to sneak around.”
As soon as she finished, Brad’s expression turned stormy.
Lena was furing, but with Brad there, she couldn’t say much.
She tugged at Brad’s sleeve, her voice suddenly sweet and coy. “Brad, since that’s the case, let’s talk later on the phone. I’ll head out first.”
“Okay.” Brad nodded slightly, his eyes unexpectedly gentle.
Sally glanced over, and for the first time, she saw a gentle look on his face.
Even when they were closest, he’d never shown her this kind of tenderness.
Sally couldn’t help but sneer.
It turns out that whether Brad loved her or not could really be seen at a glance.
She used to think his distance and coldness were just his personality, but now she realized he’d only ever been cold to her.
He was never trying to warm her heart.
The door clicked shut behind them.
After that, Brad strode over and took a seat across from Sally.
He looked at her with a cold, indifferent gaze. “What do you want to talk about?”
Sally stared back, her face expressionless. “What else is there to say between us? I’m here to get you to sign the divorce papers. So, when are you actually going to sign?*
Brad leaned forward a bit and picked up his cup. “I’ve told you more than once. Grandpa’s health can’t handle any more stress. If it weren’t for him, I would’ve signed already. You don’t need to keep coming over to push me.
Ive also said that we could keep up the act for a while before the divorce. Once Howard is better, we’ll break the news to him. That shouldn’t be a big deal for you, right?” said Sally.
“You’ve been spending a lot of time with Uncle Jaxon lately. I heard he even went to Windmere Estates yesterday. When did you two get so close?” But instead of answering her, Brad changed the subject.

Sally looked up, a slight frown forming between her brows,
She thought, ‘So he really is having someone keep tabs on me. Otherwise, how would he know Jaxon came to my place?
“I’m talking about divorce. Why are you dragging your uncle into this?” asked Sally.
Brad shot up, circled the coffee table, and came to her side. He braced both hands on the back of her sofa, dropped to one knee, and instantly caged Sally in with his arms.
The sudden closeness made Sally frown. “Why are you getting so close all of a sudden?”
Brad’s voice dropped, even more intense. “I heard you and Jaxon were hugging?”
Sally’s frown deepened.
She thought, “They even saw that?‘
Sally’s face darkened. “Are you seriously having me followed?”
“Answer me! Why are you and Uncle Jaxon so close?” In a flash, Brad grabbed her chin, forcing her to look up at him.
“I almost fell down the stairs and Mr. Zale helped me. But by the time you heard it, it became a hug?” Sally shook off his hand, a cold, mocking smile on her lips. “Next time, tell your people to check their facts. I don’t care about this gossip, but if your uncle hears it, that’s a different story,”
Brad’s eyelashes quivered just a bit.
He thought, “That’s true. Uncle Jaxon can’t stand it when people talk trash about him.’
Sally stood up from her chair, and Brad straightened up too.
“If you don’t sign, I’m fine dragging this out. But as far as I’m concerned, we’re already divorced starting today. From now on, let’s stay out of each other’s business. Mr. Zale, tell your people to stop following me,” said Sally.
Her voice was low and cold, and there was nothing but ice in her upturned eyes.
Just as she was about to walk away, Brad suddenly grabbed her wrist. “If I catch you making a move on Uncle Jaxon, you’d better watch yourself.” His words made Sally’s heart skip a beat.
She’d never thought about doing that, but now, thanks to him, the idea had crossed her mind.
She thought, ‘If I really need someone to rely on, Jaxon won’t be a bad choice.
After all, Brad is the one who cheated on me first. So why shouldn’t I date another guy?‘
I’m already divorcing you, so why do you still care so much?” Sally gave a faint, almost indifferent smile. “I’m not your wife anymore. As for Jaxon, he’s just a man to me…”
Just a man? The word hit Brad’s ears, and his eyes flashed red with anger.
Brad snapped, “Sally, do you even know what you’re saying? That’s my uncle!”
“He’s your uncle, not mine.” Sally shook off his hand without a second thought, her smile growing even colder.
For the first time, Brad saw a kind of allure in her he had never noticed before.
Watching her walk away, Brad called out, “When did you become so shameless?”
Sally froze in her tracks when she heard the word shameless.
It was the first time Brad had ever called her that.
“Say whatever you want.” Sally curled her lips into a mocking smile, her face full of scorn.
After leaving the Zale Group, Sally stood in front of the building, deep in thought for a long time.
In the end, she pulled out her phone and sent a text to Jaxon: [Mr. Zale, are you available tonight?]
