I gasped and covered my mouth in shock as I watched through the surveillance.
Cyrus must have lost his mind!
Julia and Elise screamed and begged him, but when Cyrus pressed the blade deeper into Julia’s neck and blood gushed out, Julia locked Elise inside.
Outside the door, Julia dropped to her knees, sobbing and bowing her head as she begged Cyrus to let Elise go.
From the bathroom came cries of terror, but Cyrus only sneered at Julia with contempt.
“I thought you’d sacrifice yourself for your daughter. Turns out, you’re just trying to survive like everyone else. Do you know why I can’t help but be drawn to Evelyn? It’s not just because she looks like that internet celebrity I used to stay up all night watching in high school. It’s because she’s kind –something neither of us ever were.”
My tears kept falling. He said he couldn’t stop being drawn to me–then what was all that coldness toward me and Anna for all these years?
Julia couldn’t take in any of his so–called confessions–she just kept bowing, begging Cyrus to spare Elise.
A scream came from the bathroom, and the door was quickly soaked in blood.

“The moment you let those 20 wolfdogs into the kennel, you knew this would end with your own daughter paying the price.”
“You’ve crossed the line, Julia. I could turn a blind eye to your petty tricks against Evelyn, even tolerate the games you played in front of me. But I will never allow you to harm her or Anna.”
Cyrus was ridiculous. It was exactly because he kept letting Julia get away with her petty schemes against us that she had the audacity to go after Anna’s life!
Now all his so–called deep feelings were just to fool himself.
Julia was a sobbing mess, and when Elise’s broken, lifeless body was carried out, she almost lost her mind.
“Evelyn, it’s all your fault! You stole everything from me and got my daughter killed. I’ll never forgive you!”
Seeing that she still hadn’t given up on hurting me, Cyrus kicked her to the ground and looked down at her coldly.
“If you dare go after Evelyn again, I’ll bury you myself. Get out of my sight while I still don’t feel like killing you.”
After Julia left with Elise’s body, Mike saw the blood and asked, “Knowing this would happen, why did you do that in the first place? I know you’ve always hated me. When you were 15, I hired a hostess. Your mom rushed to catch me in the act but died in a car crash on the way. That’s been haunting you.
“Ever since then, you’ve gone out of your way to go against me about everything. Even the most suitable wife I chose for you. You knew you fell for her at first sight, but just to defy me, you pretended you didn’t. You pushed her away, causing pain to both her and your own daughter.

“Don’t you see how childish that is? You’re the one who ruined
everything. You drove your wife away and killed your daughter. Do you regret it? But regret is useless. There’s a life between you two now–it was your daughter’s.”
Cyrus’s eyes were bloodshot as he dropped to his knees.
“I’ve barely ever begged you in my life, let alone gotten on my knees.
“But this time, I’m begging you. Please tell me where Evelyn is. I can’t lose her.”
