His confession hit me harder than I expected, settling deep in my chest like a weight I didn’t know how to carry. I didn’t even know what to feel or say. I had no clue what his actual position was in the Gold Fang Clan, but judging by the way the butler addressed him and the kind of house he lived in, I could guess he was someone powerful, someone important.”
And yet, for reasons I didn’t understand, he chose me… someone with nothing, someone who was already divorced.}}
“I’m not asking you to return the feeling,” he added, stepping back slowly, giving me room to breathe. “But I needed to be honest. I don’t intend to pretend.”
Before I could respond, the butler cleared his throat quietly, reminding us that we weren’t alone. Ulysses glanced at him and nodded, then looked back at me.}
“Go ahead. He’ll show you to your room. I’ll join you later for dinner,” he said while pulling out his phone. He turned toward the butler and gave another instruction. “I still have things to take care of at the company. Make sure Madam is comfortable. Give her whatever she needs and don’t let her feel out of place.”N
“Yes, sir,” the butler replied, bowing slightly.”
Ulysses turned to me one last time and offered a faint but sincere smile. “I’m off, then.“”
I simply nodded, still unable to form a response. I watched as he walked back to the black SUV where a driver was waiting. The yehicle pulled away, disappearing around the driveway curve.
For a moment, I just stood there, unsure of what I was supposed to do now. The butler stepped forward and gestured toward the entrance, reminding me to follow him inside.
The house was the kind you’d only ever see in magazines.
There were huge ceilings, a grand chandelier above a sweeping staircase, walls lined with expensive paintings, and polished vases standing on pedestals. The place had a cold beauty, the kind that only wealth could maintain.
Maids in uniform moved around quietly, some dusting corners, others carrying my luggage. The butler moved ahead, informing me that my room had already been prepared and that I should follow him there.”
“You mean… I have a room here?” I asked, blinking in disbelief.”
“Yes, Madam. It was arranged earlier today at Master Ulysses’s instruction,” he answered calmly.”
That made me pause. I didn’t understand why someone like Ulysses would go through all this trouble. With him gone, I found the courage to ask the question lingering in my mind.
“Can I ask you something? Do you know why Ulysses knows me?” I tried to keep my voice even, but I sounded unsure even to myself. “You don’t have to answer if it’s too personal.”
The butler glanced at me, considering.”
“I’ve watched Master Ulysses since he was an infant. I’ve seen him grow up into the man he is now, and to be honest, Madam… I’ve
never seen you before. Perhaps he met you during his time abroad. He did spend years overseas for education and work.“?
I nodded slowly, but confusion lingered. I had never gone abroad in my life.
Was it possible Ulysses had mistaken me for someone else?
We arrived at a wide set of double doors on the second floor. When the butler opened them, I froze. The room was massive and bigger than the one I had back at Lucas’s estate. Elegant curtains framed tall windows, and a four–poster bed stood in the center like something out of a royal drama.”
Maids were waiting inside with my luggage. I quickly told them not to arrange anything since most of my belongings were personal. room. The butler walked to a corner of the wall

and showed me a small button.”
“If you need assistance, simply press this, and one of us will come. Meals are served on schedule, and someone will knock to inform you when it’s ready.”
“Thank you,” I replied, still overwhelmed.”
Once I was alone, I looked around. I moved to touch the bed. It was soft, the kind that sinks slightly under your hand. I walked over to the vanity table and was stunned to see rows of jewelry. Pearls, diamonds, and gold shimmered under the lights. Moving to the walk–in closet, I found rows of dresses, shoes, bags, all new and all in my size.
There was no doubt, these were for me.”
I sat on the edge of the bed and whispered, “Why are you treating me like this, Ulysses?“”
I didn’t feel deserving of any of it.”
Eventually, I stood up and unpacked my things. After an hour, I realized I was hungry. But I was too shy to call anyone. I wasn’t used to pressing buttons and having someone come running. So, I decided to go down to the kitchen myself.
I didn’t see the butler anywhere, but one of the maids spotted me wandering and approached with concern.”
“Madam, do you need something?”

“Ah, yes,” I said. “I wanted to go to the kitchen.“&
“Would you like us to prepare food for you?” she offered with a polite smile.
I quickly shook my head. “No, no. I just want to cook something myself. It’s fine, really.“”
She blinked, clearly confused by the idea but didn’t argue. “Very well. This way, Madam.”
She led me to the kitchen, which was surprisingly empty. She explained that the house chef had gone out to buy supplies and would return soon. I thanked her and told her I didn’t need help.
Once I was alone, I opened the fridge and found a few pieces of steak. I figured I’d just cook a simple meal. I seasoned the meat, heated the pan, and began cooking. The kitchen was quiet, and for the first time that day, I felt a little normal.
That was until I heard the sound of approaching footsteps.”
I paused, listening carefully. There were at least two, maybe three people. An old woman’s voice echoed through the hall.”
“Good thing you’ve come here,” she said, her tone sharp and impatient. “Ulysses is always too busy to fetch you himself. Now we can finally meet him once he returns.”
Another voice, much softer and sweeter, replied, “It’s okay, Auntie. Ulysses has always been like that, even when we were younger. I understand.“”
The older woman gave a dramatic sigh. “He’s unbelievable sometimes. But don’t worry, Catelyn. I’ll make sure he finally announces your engagement.”
“There’s really no need,” the younger woman said shyly. “Just let Ulysses… wait, what’s that smell?“!
The door to the kitchen opened, and both women stepped in. The younger one was stunning, dressed perfectly with flawless skin. Her face twisted in disgust as she covered her nose.
“It smells awful,” she said. “Is that garlic? I’m allergic to garlic.“”
The older woman’s eyes zeroed in on me. She pointed a manicured finger at me.”
“Who are you? The chef? How dare you cook something like this in my house? You’re fired!”
