Chapter 16
In the following days, Joaquin seemed to have restrained himself and would not frequently appear in front of Harley. However, he would occasionally secretly send her some things.
Harley thought that Joaquin was finally going to give up, but what she didn’t expect was that Joaquin appeared in her class again and also announced that he would be organizing tomorrow’s practical class.
Harold wanted to confront Joaquin, but was stopped by Harley.
“Perhaps Mr. Wang really had something to do.”
Harley knew in his heart that confronting Joaquin, whether intentional or not, would only further entangle them.
The best way is to ignore and treat Joaquin as an invisible person.
The next day, Joaquin led everyone to visit the Practice Base.
Harold also came along, keeping a close eye on Joaquin the whole way, afraid that he might do something.
Harley was somewhat amused and didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Just as she was about to tell him not to be so nervous, she heard Joaquin calling her name.
“Harley, could you explain the origin of this missile fragment to everyone?”
Harley looked at the missile fragments in front of him and calmly said, “The Vergeltungswaffe–2, developed by the Germans in 1942, was propelled by its own power system. It can be considered as one of the
earlier models…”
Harley’s words were interrupted by a loud explosion.
As the surroundings around him began to shake violently, Joaquin’s expression of admiration on his face gradually turned into panic.
“There was an enemy attack, evacuate quickly!”
Upon hearing the shout of the security guard at the door, Joaquin instinctively took Harley’s hand and prepared to leave with her.
But in a quick glance, a pillar next to a classmate was shaking and about to collapse.
Joaquin gritted his teeth and handed Harley over to Harold.
“Take her out quickly, if anything happens to her, I won’t let you off.”
Harley frowned as he saw Joaquin turn and run inside.
“Joaquin, where were you going?”
Joaquin did not turn back, answering as he ran inside.
“I was a teacher, and it was my responsibility to protect the students.”
As the surroundings shook more violently, most of the students ran out. Harold also pulled Harley and ran outside.
“Harley, let’s go out first.”
Harley nodded and ran outside with Harold.
Before leaving, she turned around and happened to see the pillar next to Joaquin collapsing. Joaquin pushed the student away and found himself trapped under the pillar.
After running to a safe place, Harley felt her mind go blank. unable to
hear any of the sounds around her. In her world, there was only the sound of her own heartbeat.
“Harley, cheer up a bit!”
Harold’s voice was like a sword slicing through the air, pulling her back to reality.
She insisted on searching and rescuing with the rescue personnel, moving rubble all afternoon, until Joaquin and the other trapped individuals were finally rescued in the evening.
The situation was not good. Joaquin had broken three ribs and narrowly missed piercing his heart. The doctors worked hard to save him and finally pulled Joaquin back from the brink of death.
In the meantime, Harley stayed at the clinic. Harold wanted her to take a rest for a while and replace Harley himself, but Harley refused.
Harold was somewhat helpless and had no choice but to accompany Harley in waiting for the doctor’s news.
“Harley, it wasn’t your fault, you don’t need to blame yourself.”
Harley lowered his gaze.
“I knew, but…”
Watching Joaquin fall in front of her, she still felt a bit uneasy in her heart.
Joaquin remained unconscious for five days before finally waking up. As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw Harley holding a towel, ready to wipe her face.
Seeing him wake up, a hint of surprise flashed in Harley’s eyes.

“Did you wake up?”
Joaquin rubbed his forehead and slowly sat up.
“How long did I sleep?”
Harley handed him a glass of water.
“Five days.”
Catching a glimpse of Harley’s busy figure, Joaquin hesitated for a moment and slowly spoke, “These days, it has been you who has been…”
His words had not finished yet when the door of the ward was opened from outside.
“Mr. Leon, you finally woke up. If it weren’t for you, the person lying here right now would have been me.
The boy who had been saved by him earlier ran in and hugged him tightly.
Joaquin groaned, and his wounds almost burst open.
Another girl noticed Joaquin’s strangeness and quickly pulled the boy
away.
“Mr. Leon’s injury had not fully recovered yet, could you please be careful?”
The girl glanced at the boy with some helplessness, and the boy smiled awkwardly.
Another student placed the fruit basket at Joaquin’s bedside.
“Mr. Leon, I brought some fruits. Would you like to have some?”
A boy wearing glasses also made timely additions.
“Right, Mr. Leon just woke up, he must be very thirsty. I’ll go pour you a glass of water.”
“Didn’t you see Mr. Leon holding a water cup?”
The crowd became lively in the ward as everyone started talking one after another.
Harley opened his mouth with some confusion and asked, “What were you just about to say?”
Joaquin shook his head and looked at the crowd.
“No, it’s nothing. Were you taking care of me these days?”
The crowd pointed at the boy who was saved by Joaquin.
“Mainly him, he could come to visit you four or five times a day.”
The boy touched his hair and smiled wryly.
“Wasn’t I worried about Mr. Leon?”
While no one was paying attention, Harold pulled Harley out of the ward.
The two of them walked all the way to the corner of the corridor, and seeing that there was no one around, Harold lowered his voice and said to Harley, “The situation has changed, we need to leave for the desert early. There is a remnant waiting for us to clean up over there.”
Harley was a little surprised.
“Was it so sudden?”
Harold nodded.

“I just received the news as well. We will leave in a few days. Are you ready?”
Harley’s gaze was determined.
“Of course, moreover, with you around, you always did things very thoroughly.”
The two of them chatted for a while, completely unaware of Joaquin lurking in the corner with a dark expression.
Harold went back to discuss the details with Davion, while Harley returned to the ward, intending to say hello to Joaquin before leaving.
When Harley went back, everyone had already left, and only Joaquin was lying in bed coughing.
Harley hurriedly poured a glass of water for Joaquin, who gratefully accepted it.
As if suddenly seeing something, Joaquin grabbed Harley’s arm and pulled the two of them closer.
“Wait a moment, there was some dust here.”
Joaquin took out a handkerchief and wiped Harley’s face. Then he let go of Harley, as if nothing had happened, calmly putting away the handkerchief.
Harley felt a strange scent from that handkerchief, but he didn’t pay much
attention to it.
“Since you woke up, I will leave first, I have something to do.”
“Wait a moment, could you help me peel an apple to eat? My arm couldn’t lift up.”

Watching Joaquin’s somewhat desolate expression, Harley sighed and agreed.
She brought a chair and sat down to peel an apple.
She could have cut it in half, but she felt her brain was a bit foggy.
Her consciousness gradually became blurred, and even shaking her head vigorously couldn’t alleviate it.
Before losing consciousness, she saw Joaquin gently take the knife from her hand and say, “Rest assured, I will protect you.”
