Chapter 2
Herman scratched his head and snapped impatiently, “Is this really the time to argue about this? You said we were in love for six years, so isn’t it only natural that I’d remember you have rare blood in a crisis?”
But my body was still weak and bleeding intermittently from the abortion. How could I possibly donate blood?
Even if I met the donation criteria, why should I sacrifice myself just to clean up his mess?
“I just had an abortion. I can’t donate. Find someone else!”
Herman snarled in rage, “Hollie, you claim to love me, but now you won’t even donate a little blood? You’d go so far as to lie about an abortion!
“I can’t believe you’re this heartless! No wonder I can’t remember ever loving you!”
He wasn’t wrong. If he had ever truly loved me, he wouldn’t have faked an illness to deceive me. He wouldn’t have ignored my pale face.
And he certainly wouldn’t be forcing me to donate blood for his lover!
The medical equipment beeped urgently. The doctor, thinking it was unwise to waste time here, rushed the patient into surgery.
Herman tried to drag me along by force, but I resisted.
Frustrated, he picked me up and threw me over his shoulder.
“Hollie, whether you like it or not, I owe you for this. Fine, I’ll marry you on our wedding day!”

At that moment, all my struggles ceased.
Herman had once risked his life to save me, so I decided to repay my debt.
As I watched my blood flow into the donation bag, my heart grew colder and colder.
The moment the transfusion ended, Herman and the nurse rushed toward
the operating room.
Staring at his back, I whispered, “Herman, we’re even now.”
As I stepped out of the donation room, a wave of dizziness hit me, and everything went black.
When I woke up, the doctor wanted to scold me but could only sigh.
“Take care of your body. Given your condition, you shouldn’t donate blood for at least six months.”
I smiled and agreed.
As the doctor left, a young nurse hesitated before whispering, “Why didn’t you tell her we couldn’t reach her emergency contact? What if she blames
Us…
“She won’t. She’s a smart girl. It’s just a shame she met the wrong person.”
I picked up my phone and saw that the doctor had tried calling Herman over a dozen times.
Not a single call had been answered.
Instead, Herman had sent me a message reprimanding me, “Hollie, can you stop it? Know your place, will you?”
At that moment, I was actually relieved he hadn’t answered the calls.

Because I couldn’t imagine what cruel words he might have used to humiliate me.
I didn’t reply. I lay in bed all day before I finally had the strength to get up and walk.
The sun outside was warm and bright. I went to the hospital’s rooftop garden for some fresh air, only to run into Herman’s friends.
Each of them carried a different fruit basket and bouquet.
I thought they were here to see me, so I instinctively turned to leave.
But they surrounded me, smirking at my hospital gown. “Well, looks like someone’s putting on quite the tragic act now that Herman is here with his girlfriend.
“It was just a blood donation. Do you really need to look this frail and delicate?
“Gotta admit, though, your makeup looks flawless. I’m almost convinced that your face is pale from illnesses. We always said you were a manipulative one, but Herman refused to believe it…”
Herman’s friends had never thought I was good enough for him.
If it weren’t for him forcing them to show me some respect, they never would’ve accepted me.
Now, with the act that Herman was pulling, they could say whatever they truly felt.
Then, Herman arrived, having rushed downstairs to meet them. The moment he saw me, he paused, frowning. “Hollie, is this really necessary?
“I already agreed to marry you, and now you’re bribing doctors to fake an illness just to spy on me? Do you think this is funny?

“Do you have any idea how suffocating you are?
“I’ll be honest with you–if you keep acting like this after we get married, we’ll end up divorced sooner or later!”
