Chapter 13
I went to the hospital to check on a patient.
When the family found out I was the surgeon, they almost knelt down in gratitude.
My medical staff and I quickly stopped them.
“Whoa, whoa–none of that! Saving lives is literally our job.”
“If it weren’t for you, my boy would’ve been a goner. You pulled him back from the edge–I owe you everything,” the patient’s elderly mother wept, tears of joy and relief mixing.
We doctors see life and death often; saving a life is a great blessing. The patient, post–surgery, was out of danger with no apparent sequelae.
Fortunate in misfortune.
I supported the old woman, comforted her, gave instructions, and left with the staff.
Back in my office, I received a call from my father, Gustavo Sutton. After hesitating, I answered.

Charlotte, can you come back with Jaxson for

while?
I vaguely guessed something, my face falling.“Just say it if you have something.”
“Did you say that? Can’t you go home for a while even if there’s nothing wrong? You must come back in the afternoon.”
Before I could refuse, he hung up.
Jaxson’s POV
I was in a meeting when I received a text from Caroline:“Jaxson, Collin has already arrived at the kindergarten Thank you, if it weren’t for you, Collin wouldn’t be able to go to school yet.”
I glanced at it, tapped the screen, and replied: “It’s fine.”
When I opened WhatsApp, my gaze fell on my chat box with Charlotte.
I noticed the last message she sent was from the 8th of last month.
She’d asked if I’d come
that weekend. I hadn’t replied.
And she hadn’t sent another message since.
She really kept her cool
