Chapter53
“Phew. What am I going to do? I can hide it for a while, but not forever…”
“What should I do about this child? Should I keep it or not?”
She agonized over it for half the night.
It wasn’t until after eleven that she finally drifted off to sleep.

The next day.
It was Saturday, so there was no need to go to school or the office.
Charlotte slept until nine thirty, only to be jolted awake by a strong wave of morning sickness.
“Ugh…”
Because it was morning, the nausea was even worse.
She couldn’t help but clutch the trash can, retching repeatedly.
She was in the middle of a particularly bad bout.
Kathy came knocking on the door again.
“Bang, bang, bang!”
“Lottie, are you up yet? I had someone make you some soup. Get up and eat!”

“…Ugh, got it. I just wanted to sleep a bit longer.”
Kathy knocked again. “It’s almost ten o’clock. Get up already!”
“There’s a new real estate development in the Western District. Didn’t you want to look at apartments? I happen to be free today, so I can go with you.”
Charlotte sighed helplessly when she heard this. “Okay, I know.”
She lay there for another five minutes.
Her stomach finally felt a little better.
Listlessly, she got up and went to the bathroom to wash up.
Twenty minutes later.
She changed her clothes, grabbed her bag, and left the bedroom.
Kathy was already impatient from waiting. She frowned at Charlotte. “What took you so long? You’re getting more and more sluggish these days.”
“What do you mean? I had to change my clothes! I told you, it’s Saturday. I wanted to sleep in today.”
“Alright, stop dawdling. The seafood chowder is getting cold. I’ll have someone heat it up for you.”
“No need.”
Charlotte sat down at the dining table.
A servant brought over a bowl of seafood chowder.

There were also several delicate dishes on the table, all looking delicious.

Charlotte’s stomach still felt queasy. She forced herself to take a spoonful of the seafood chowder, but the slippery texture only made her want to throw up even more.
“Ugh.”
She almost threw up right then and there.
Seeing this, Kathy asked with concern, “What’s wrong?”
Charlotte forced herself to swallow. “…Mom, I don’t have much of an appetite this morning. I’m not going to eat.”
“You didn’t eat dinner last night? And now you’re skipping breakfast too?”
“Mm, I’m dieting. I’ll eat at lunch instead!”
With that, she put down her spoon and quickly got up from the table.
“Alright, let’s go! We’ll go check out the apartments in the Western District now!”
“Oh, okay!” ”
A little later.
Mother and daughter got in the car, and the driver took them to the Western District.
“There are only a dozen or so penthouses in this development, all duplexes. The location is great–perfect for young people like you.”

“If you like it, you could buy one.”
“Mm–hmm, okay!” Charlotte replied absentmindedly.
Her mind kept replaying what Gregory had said.
He said he wanted to marry her.
She had no idea if he was serious or not.
“…Mom, if I found a boyfriend who was more than ten years older than me, would you and Dad be okay with it?”
Kathy’s eyes went wide when she heard this. “What do you mean?”
Charlotte gave an awkward smile. “Nothing, really… I was just saying.”
Kathy’s frown deepened. “More than ten years older? Why would you want to date a man that much older than you?”
“Heh, no, I was just talking.”
“Lottie, don’t hide things from me. Are you already dating a middle- aged man?”
“No…”
The more Kathy thought about it, the more uneasy she became. She said sternly, “Lottie, you can have a boyfriend, but you can’t date someone that much older than you.”
