Chapter 11
We spent quite a shameless period of time stuck at home with Ryan. He was full of energy every day, while I was paralyzed in bed.
As usual, lying dead at home, I suddenly received a call from a former colleague, a sister who had been working with me since I joined the company.
She got straight to the point. “Odette, I can’t believe you actually made up your mind to quit for good.”
I replied weakly. “Yes.”
She sighed. “Well, actually, we have all been missing you a lot lately, Odette. If you really don’t want to come back, a few of us colleagues would like to take you out for a meal, as a farewell.”
I didn’t think there was any problem. “Sure, just give me the time and place.”
After promising, I suddenly realized. “Who are those people? Not Timothy, right?”
When mentioning Timothy, she hesitated a bit.
“Odette, after all, you used to be a direct employee of Mr. Lawson. It’s impossible not to invite him to such events…”
“But Mr. Lawson is so busy, and he may not necessarily come…”
She seemed very afraid that I would change my mind. But thinking about it carefully, how was Timothy doing? Just a stranger.

“Alright then,” I said, feeling quite open and honest, or at least that’s what I thought.
Then… on the day of the agreed dinner, Ryan said he had a dinner appointment in the evening. He asked me if I wanted to go out to eat.
I hesitated shamefully.
“I also go out… to have dinner with friends.”
“Which friend?”
“Sorry, they are former colleagues that you don’t know.”
“No one I knew?”
“No,” I denied firmly.
Ryan stared at me deeply for a while.
“Okay,” he said, then turned and walked out the door.
Actually, I knew I shouldn’t have felt guilty and hidden it, but after all, he was someone I had openly pursued for so long.
Mentioning it in front of my current husband always made me feel a little uncomfortable.
Besides, he might not even go at all. It was just a meal, and it quickly passed!
However… when the time came for my colleague to give me the address of the dinner restaurant, I saw Ryan’s car.
I almost instinctively wanted to run, but the car seemed to be waiting for me on purpose, and the window rolled down directly, revealing

At the moment when our eyes met, I knew, I was in trouble.
“Babe,” his cool voice drifted out. “Are you having dinner here with friends too?”
I wiped the nonexistent sweat off my forehead. “Hmm…”
Not sure how to explain yet, Ryan gave a glance towards the door. “The colleagues you mentioned, could it be them?”
I followed his gaze. Wasn’t it the group of colleagues? They jumped up and waved at me as if afraid I would die.
“Odette, over here, over here!”
I think I could have actually explained all of this if Timothy hadn’t been standing there in the end.
Ryan spoke again, his voice filled with disappointment.
“Odie.”
“Why did you lie to me?”
My palms were sweating. “No, honey, listen to me…‘

But Ryan didn’t have the patience to listen to me as usual, he got out of the car from the other side.
I watched his back as he walked away with long strides, feeling like I was about to cry.
What’s even worse, I sat down at the dinner table and only then did I realize that I had been deceived by my colleague.

This was not a farewell dinner for me at all, it was a social event for Timothy’s company and Ryan!
My colleague said they tricked me into coming because my name was still on the bid that was given to Ryan before.
In addition, Timothy also wanted me to come, saying that I had lied to him using Ryan’s name before, so I had to come in this situation. So they came up with this trick.
I was so speechless that I didn’t even want to get angry.
Ryan and I sat at the opposite ends of the dining table, neither of us looking at each other.
I didn’t do it because I was afraid.
He was completely covered in bad temper, making him unapproachable.
Well, now it’s even harder to explain something that was already difficult to explain.
I was desperate.
After realizing that I had been deceived, I really had the urge to slam the table and leave, especially when Timothy occasionally cast a contemptuous glance at me. I knew he had definitely misunderstood again.
But Ryan is here, even if I leave, he won’t go with me.
When I felt completely powerless, I caught sight of the wine on the table.
Suddenly, a brilliant idea struck.
