Chapter 2
The room turned ice–cold in an instant.
As I pushed the door open to leave, someone behind me tried to smooth things over, carefully testing the waters.
“Come on, Tim, she’s just being a spoiled princess. Don’t take it personally…
“Yeah, you know how much she likes you, right?”
“She’ll probably regret it by this afternoon, begging to come back…‘
Timothy stared at the closed door, his voice flat with a cold chuckle.
“Who cares?”
I tossed out everything useless at the company. Staring at the now- empty desk, I almost laughed.
Last night flashed through my mind again–staying late at the office, drained and exhausted, when I got that anonymous video.
It showed a flashy private room, soaked in neon lights. Timothy had a gorgeous woman in his arms, casually listening to the chatter around him.
“Odette’s still busting her ass at your company, huh?”
“Tim, you really know how to handle her. That girl used to show up at all our parties. Now? Nothing.”
They weren’t wrong. I’d chased Timothy for years. I was Daddy’s little princess, working myself sick just to stay by Timothy’s side.
As long as he asked, I was there, pulling overtime, handling his clients, and running myself into the ground.
And what did I get in return? Just his buddies laughing it up.
“Honestly, Odette’s like the most obedient puppy at Tim’s side.”
“The most? What’s that supposed to mean?” Timothy, swirling his drink, didn’t deny it and didn’t even blink.
“She’s the only one who acts like a puppy. What’s this ‘most‘ crap?”
Everyone burst out laughing.
In that moment, it felt like a bucket of ice water had been dumped over my head.
So cold. But also–crystal clear.
I pulled out my phone and scrolled through my contacts until I found the guy my family had tried setting me up with a while back.
They said he was great. The type everyone wanted. But I’d been too busy orbiting Timothy, hoping to blow up the whole thing.
Now? Maybe it was a little shameless. But everyone knows–the fastest way to get over someone is to start something new.
I tapped out a message, “Free tomorrow. Wanna
I didn’t expect a reply so fast.
“Absolutely.”

My blind date was a gentleman.
He said I could pick the time–he’d handle the place. But when my parents brought up the date earlier, I tuned them out.
So now, I know nothing about this guy.
I arrived early and stood outside the venue, hesitating. What if I don’t recognize him? That’d be awkward.
I was pacing when I accidentally bumped into someone.
I looked up–crisp, tailored suit. Then, higher–a face so perfectly sculpted it was almost unfair.
He looked at me gently. “Why aren’t you going in?”
His lips moved as he spoke, thin and soft–easy to imagine getting close to. I swallowed without thinking, then caught myself.
Because I knew who he was.
He was Ryan Harland–A big name in the industry.
I’d seen his name listed over and over again as a target partner for Timothy’s company.
But rumor said he was ruthless, cold, and impossible to approach. Not once had a deal gone through.
I quickly stepped back to let him pass.
“Sorry! I’m waiting for someone. Zoned out a bit. My bad. You go ahead…”
He let out a soft chuckle. “Ms. Sanchez.”
I looked up, surprised.
How did he know my name?
He smiled, eyes crinkling slightly.
“Is it possible… the person you’re waiting for is me?”
