Chapter 20
Matteo was clutching his boarding pass, not yet in line, when his assistant’s voice exploded behind him:[]
“CEO Jackson! Something terrible happened–we just received news that Vice President Lee… jumped from the company rooftop!”
“What?!“]
“He said you were acting recklessly, not caring about his family’s livelihood, so…”
…“O
The sharp edge of the boarding pass cut into his palm, the stinging pain mixed with the metallic taste spreading.
His phone immediately began vibrating, the police summons making Matteo panic.[]
An employee suicide would not only severely impact the company’s reputation but also cause stock prices to plummet.[]
Moreover, the person who jumped wasn’t just an employee–it was a board member, one of his group’s vice presidents.
Most importantly, this incident once again delayed his departure abroad.]
Looking at Matteo’s grim expression, his assistant dared not breathe loudly. After several minutes, he finally dared to ask: “CEO Jackson, what do we do now?”
“I… I’ll go back immediately.“[]
The steering wheel in his hands nearly twisted out of shape from his anger.
Twenty minutes later, Matteo arrived at the police station, the harsh fluorescent lights making it impossible to keep his eyes open.[]
Matteo stared at the statement reading “employee suicide due to decision–making errors,” his nails digging deep into his palms.
As soon as the long–waiting family members saw Matteo, they immediately rushed toward him.
“It’s all because of you that my husband jumped! You monster, I’ll fight you!“]
Matteo didn’t fight back, just quietly waited for the nearby officers to pull her away.
“The family is very emotional right now. If you want mediation, we’ll probably have to wait.”
“Fine.“]
Matteo took the documents and reviewed them.[]
After multiple communications with lawyers and family members, they finally decided to sign a settlement agreement.[]
When he finally signed and left, the last flight to England had long since departed.[]
The late–night streets were terrifyingly quiet. Matteo leaned againet hie Ma-
A familiar soft voice pierced the night.]
Joannie suddenly emerged from the shadows, her bandaged severed finger gleaming pale in the moonlight, looking quite ghastly.
“Do you… want to know where Yunia lives?“[]
Her voice was severely hoarse, but the taunting tone was still audible.[]
Since he had discarded Joannie, her family had fallen dramatically without his protection.[]
Joannie’s parents had actually come to plead with Matteo.]
But he never expected that Joannie’s family would be like vampires: even after their daughter was beaten half to death by him, they still dared to come begging, asking for ten million right off the bat.
He found it incomprehensible. So he had them tied up, casually stuffed cash into their mouths, and had bodyguards drag them out.[]
So Matteo instinctively assumed she was here for money again, casually pulling out some bills and throwing them at her feet.[]
Regarding Joannie, he had thought about settling accounts with her properly.[]
But now he had more important matters.
“Tell me first. If the address is correct, I’ll give you more.”
“0
She waved her phone, the screen flashing a villa’s location. “Give me one million, and I’ll send it to you immediately.”
Matteo’s pupils contracted sharply, his cigarette falling to the ground.
“You… really know where she is?”
As he instinctively moved closer, Joannie suddenly pulled a dagger from her sleeve, the cold light stabbing directly toward Matteo’s heart!
At the critical moment, he dodged sideways, the blade scraping past his arm, instantly staining his suit with dark blood.[]
His assistant arrived with bodyguards running frantically.
But Joannie fled without looking back, her laughter sharp and piercing: “Matteo, you’ll never find her!”
“CEO Jackson, you’re injured! We need to get you to the hospital immediately.“]
“Have you found the specific location? Take me to the airport now.”
Matteo pressed his wound, blood drops falling through his fingers onto the leather seat.
His assistant looked at his paper–white complexion, sweating anxiously: “Your wound is bleeding–you must go to the hospital first!“[]
“I said, go to the airport!“]
Matteo’s roar made the car windows buzz.
His assistant had no choice but to get the emergency medical kit from the car and bandage him up.
Neon lights flashed past the window as he stared at the constantly changing delay information on the GPS.]
Chapter 20
The early morning airport hall was empty. Matteo paced constantly in front of the rebooking counter, his phone continuously refreshing flight information.[]
The pain from his wound mixed with exhaustion swept through his entire body, but he stared fixedly at the electronic display
showing “earliest flight at 3:20 AM” as if it were a lifeline.
