Chapter 25
In the pristine white church, Yunia’s wedding dress train swept across the red carpet strewn with rose petals.]
When Zayn placed the wedding ring on her finger, he deliberately rubbed the faint ring mark on her ring finger.
The diamond on the wedding ring was ostentatiously large, drawing gasps of amazement from the guests, who praised the Ravenish family’s generous and dignified gesture.[]
Only a man in a suit in the back corner clutched a velvet gift box tightly. It was something Matteo had asked him to bring.]
“Assistant Tony?“]
By the champagne tower, Yunia’s voice interrupted the man’s thoughts.
she removed her veil and greeted him openly: “How did you get here? Did Matteo send you?“[]
Assistant Tony looked at her and pulled out the layered gift box from his pocket: “CEO Jackson said… no matter what, he wanted you to have this.”
“His time… is running out…“]
The moment she opened the gift box, the diamond under the crystal chandelier made her squint.[]
A five–carat main diamond surrounded by smaller diamonds, with design patterns on the setting that were identical to the wedding ring in her memory.
This was her graduation design from college. No one was more familiar with this ring than she was.[
Yunia’s fingertips traced the diamond, suddenly remembering that day-
To please Joannie, Matteo had directly thrown away the ring she had given him with her own hands.
Later, when she asked about it, he had said coldly: “It’s just a ring. I can buy you as many as you want.“]
“Please thank him for me. Also tell him that I’ve let go, and I hope he won’t come looking for me again. I won’t see him either.”
Her voice was terrifyingly steady. As she prepared to push the gift box back, an arm wrapped around her waist.
This was an absolute declaration of ownership.[]
Assistant Tony opened his mouth, but seeing the new wedding ring on her ring finger, he swallowed the words on his lips.
During the bouquet toss, Yunia caught a glimpse of the velvet gift box in the trash can when she turned around.
The diamond gleamed coldly in the shadows, much like the fleeting annoyance that used to flash in Matteo’s eyes.[]
She remembered him saying “it’s just an act” after the car accident, saying “come home when you’re done making a scene” when Joannie tore up her design drafts.
Most of all, she remembered the sounds of his and Joannie’s entangled breathing in that hospital room on the last day.[]
“Catch!”
Chapter 25
She suddenly exerted force, the bouquet tracing an arc through the air into the crowd.]
Amid the guests‘ cheers, Yunia slowly walked to the trash can and picked up the diamond ring from the gift box.[]
Zayn noticed something was wrong and was about to approach when he saw her raise her hand and throw the diamond into the wishing pool outside the church.
“Yunia? What’s wrong?”
He held her cold fingertips, his eyes full of concern.[]
“Nothing.”
She looked up at the skylight: “Just saying goodbye to the past.“]
Assistant Tony stood in the shadows, watching the ripples in the wishing pool, unable to calm down for a long time.[]
His phone vibrated in his pocket. Matteo’s message appeared on the screen: “Did she see the ring?“||
The assistant thought for a moment and replied: She saw it.]
When the wedding car started, Yunia saw Assistant Tony bending down to pick up the gift box by the trash can in the rearview mirror.[]
She leaned into Zayn’s embrace, listening to his steady heartbeat beneath his shirt, suddenly feeling very secure.[]
Those betrayed true feelings and trampled vows had finally sunk to the bottom of the pool with that diamond ring.]
And her future was unfolding anew.[]
Yunia looked at the church gradually shrinking in the rearview mirror.
Zayn’s palm covered her cold fingertips, his voice incredibly gentle: “What did you throw away just now?”
She looked at the light beneath the distant clouds and said softly: “Just something unimportant.”
Her dress skirt was suddenly grasped. Looking down, she saw Zayn half–kneeling on the leather seat, his long fingers carefully smoothing out the wrinkles in her wedding dress.
The overhead light cast shadows under his eyelashes. This man who always meant what he said now had eyes only for her.
