Chapter 5
Immediately, unmistakable sounds started playing from my phone.
Anyone nearby would understand exactly what those noises meant.
Kyle’s unrestrained laughter could be heard from time to time
“Liv, I didn’t expect you to have such a nice body…”
The previously chaotic scene instantly fell silent.
The fists and kicks raining down on me and my dad stopped.
The sounds from the phone continued,
But this time it was clearly Olivia’s voice,
Coy and flirtatious:
“Kyle, I love the birthday gift you prepared for me…”
The video ended there. I quickly put my phone away.
I staggered to my feet,
Looking at Mr. and Mrs. Quinn’s ashen faces as I spoke harshly:

Olivia’s legs gave out and she collapsed to the ground.
Mrs. Quinn seemed to finally come to her senses.
She rushed over to Olivia and slapped her hard across the face.
“You worthless child! We slaved away for over a decade, your father and I sacrificed everything just waiting for you to make us proud today. But you went to find a man the night before your exam! Have you no shame?!”
The crowd finally understood what had really happened.
They apologized to me before turning on Olivia.
“What a waste. I heard she had great grades, one of the top students gunning for Ivy College. How could she be so foolish?!”
“I heard her dad works three jobs to support her education. He must have lost all will to live now…”
“Look at her mom, she seems to have aged decades in an instant. What a tragedy to have such an ungrateful child…”
That slap from Mrs. Quinn earlier must have used all her strength.
Olivia’s lip was starting to bleed.
Mrs. Davis stood nearby, shaking her head and sighing as she looked at Olivia.
After a while, she walked over and patted Mrs. Quinn’s shoulder.
“Mrs. Quinn, there are still more exams left. What’s done is done, don’t blame the child anymore. Let her calm down and take the rernaining tests… Sigh…”
My dad had been beaten pretty badly by Mr. Quinn earlier.
An ambulance had arrived. As I helped my dad towards it, we passed by Olivia.
She glared at me with bloodshot eyes and hissed:
“Adam, remember this. I won’t let you off the hook!”
I turned and looked at Olivia for two seconds, but ultimately said nothing.
In my previous life, all my well–intentioned advice had led to my family’s ruin.
This time around, at least I had managed to keep my family safe.
