Chapter 8
As soon as I walked out of the police station, I saw reporters crowded around.
When they saw me come out,
The onlookers‘ expressions instantly turned angry.
They pointed at the female officer and hurled insults:
“Why are you letting this beast go?! Young punks who prey on girls should be beaten to death!”
“I heard his family is rich, did you take bribes to let him off?!”
“Lock him up! Throw that animal back in jail!”
The female officer’s expression darkened.
She pushed me behind her and whispered in my ear,
“Looks like you won’t be able to leave easily today. Why don’t you wait here, and I’ll drive you home later when the crowd disperses.”
I knew the officer’s suggestion was the safest option.
But remembering how my parents had died from cyberbullying in my previous life,
I shook my head.
“It’s okay, ma’am. I need to go see my parents. With this many people gathered here, I’m sure they’re not having an easy time at home either…”
The officer looked at me and nodded.
“I’ll have a colleague drive you home first. Don’t worry, I’ll investigate thoroughly and reveal the truth to everyone soon.
No matter how frenzied the crowd was, they wouldn’t dare stop a police car.
<
As the shouting and cursing faded behind us,
I finally had time to call my parents.
But the calls that were usually picked up instantly now wouldn’t go through no matter how many times I tried.
News about me had already topped the trending lists on social media.
[Born evil, using family connections to assault a female classmate. He deserves to die!]
[Like father, like son! If the kid turned out this way, the parents must be terrible people too! The whole family should die!]
Of course I knew this was all Olivia’s scheme.
I believed the female officer would have realized everything after seeing the scene outside the police station.
I trusted she would give me justice.
But the unanswered calls still left my heart in my throat.
The officer driving seemed to sense my anxiety.
He stepped on the gas without a word.
There wasn’t much traffic in the city at night, so we quickly arrived home.
Sure enough, it was just as I had feared.
Our usually quiet little courtyard was now surrounded by people.
The crowd kept throwing garbage and filth at our windows,
Which were already completely shattered.
The people here seemed even angrier than those at the police station.
As they hurled rotten vegetables and eggs inside, they shouted:
“It’s terrible parents like you who raise such awful children! Ruining that poor girl like that, your whole family should kneel down and apologize, then kill yourselves to make amends!”
“Come out already! Come out and admit your wrongs! What kind of cowards are you, hiding inside?!”
“Get out here! If you don’t come out we’re going to break in!”
My parents‘ phones still weren’t going through. I couldn’t take it anymore.
I opened the car door about to rush in,
When the officer grabbed me.
“Son, stay calm in situations like this! Go check if anyone’s at your back door. Try to get in that way! Protect your parents! Leave this to me!”
<
With that, he got out of the car with a megaphone.
“Everyone disperse! I understand your anger, but do you realize your actions are illegal?! If someone has committed a crime, we’ll handle it. Trust us, we’ll give everyone an explanation…”
Thankfully no one was at the back door of the house.
I quickly climbed over the wall into my room.
As I pushed open the window to enter, I finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Thankfully, unlike in my previous life, there was no strange smell in the house.
“Adam, is that you?”
It was my dad’s voice!
I stumbled towards the sound and threw myself into my parents‘ arms.
I looked at them and demanded:
“Why didn’t you answer your phones?”
My dad leaned close to my ear and laughed.
“Your mom’s phone fell on the stairs when we ran downstairs. The windows were all broken so we didn’t dare go get it…”
I couldn’t help but laugh along with my dad.
Thank goodness they were okay. They had chosen to believe in me.
But I couldn’t waste any more time.
I quickly ran back to my room to find my computer, and sent out all the evidence I had prepared with one click.
Then I went back to my parents.
“Mom, Dad, the show is about to begin. Just wait…”
