Chapter 108
He opened his phone, found the location on the map, and showed it to Paulette.
Near the highway, the nearest commercial area is still several kilometers
away.
There were two small villages nearby, and the population was very low.
“Those trees are somewhat useful, after so many years, they should have grown well enough to be sold as timber. You don’t have time to deal with it, I’ll help you…”
“I didn’t sell.”
Before he could finish, Paulette cut him off.
“Since it was left by my mother, I have no reason to sell it. No need to bother you.”
Reuben’s expression was a bit stiff at first, but he quickly adjusted and said with a smile, “Yes, yes, yes… It was left by your mother, of course we should keep it well. When you have time, I’ll accompany you to take a
look.”
Paulette nodded and asked softly, “Uncle, when can we do the paperwork?”
Reuben didn’t expect her to ask directly.
For the past few days, Paulette has been obedient and well–behaved, she
would do whatever she was told without asking questions.
Why is it different now?
Reuben looked at his niece in a slightly scrutinizing way.
The girl’s young face had no extra expression, her eyes were clear and transparent, only honesty and innocence.
“The procedures can be done at any time, but…”
He smiled a bit forced, then a hint of worry showed.
“Paula, I think I should take care of this hill for you. You’re just a little girl and don’t know anything. It’s a waste to leave it uncultivated.”
“But I get it. I’m a businessman, always able to make it work.”
“Don’t worry, no matter how much money I make, I will give you every penny, don’t you trust me?”
Paulette looked at the somewhat familiar face in front of her, and didn’t
say anything.
“Do you trust your uncle?”
She wanted to believe.
But a lot of times, human nature just can’t stand scrutiny.
“Uncle, I…”
Reuben didn’t give her a chance to finish her words, he kindly said,. “Don’t rush to answer, go back and think about it first, see if what I said makes sense, there’s no hurry anyway.”
He refilled Paulette’s teacup and quickly changed the subject.
By the end of the conversation, Paulette didn’t have a chance to bring up
the paperwork.
It’s actually not that hard to figure out.
Even in a barren mountain, there are still plenty of resources that can be utilized.
Reuben finally came back to see her now, he must have come up with a great plan that could make the inheritance work and make her willingly
hand it over to him.
Just don’t know, what was Reuben planning to do?
Paulette couldn’t think of an answer, so she just decided not to think about it for now and focused all her energy on work.
Emotions, life, career.
There’s always something going on.
Jeremiah didn’t contact Paulette for two days. She thought about calling to check on him, but she figured he must be too busy to talk, otherwise he
would have reached out to her.
The feeling was inexplicable yet reassuring, she made herself laugh.
I went home after work.
It was cloudy, the scenery on the road was bleak. The sanitation worker in a yellow coat was sweeping the leaves. Looking up, he let out a sigh in the shape of a breath, as if lamenting the whole winter.
It’s almost New Year.
After the New Year, spring comes one after another.
Paulette turned up the music and leaned back comfortably.

The phone on the stand suddenly rang, and the name Jeremiah was like some kind of switch that made her sit up abruptly and turn off the music.
The red light in front started counting down. Paulette took two deep breaths, found her Bluetooth carphones and put them on, then stepped on the gas while answering the phone.
“Hello.”
The man’s pleasant voice came over, “What are you doing?”
Paulette gripped the steering wheel tightly, “Just got off work, on my way
home.”
She paused and asked, “What about you?”
“Just sent off a customer.”
Jeremiah was sitting in his friend’s office at the moment, with his long legs crossed and casually resting on the edge of the desk. “I’ll be back tomorrow morning, barring any surprises.”
Paulette let out a sigh, “Okay.”
It was very quiet.
The air conditioner was humming, making the carriage a bit warmer. She said, “Larissa cooks a lot of dishes every day, I can’t finish them all.”
There are actually a lot of meanings in this sentence, like… I was very happy to hear that you were coming back, and Larissa was happy too; I want to have dinner with you; you’re finally coming back..
