At least it smoothed over his recent resentment.
By now it was completely dark outside. Paulette walked into the hotel lobby from the entrance, but there was no one around. She looked around and didn’t see Nelson anywhere.
Go to the front desk.
“Hello, is Mr. Chapman staying here?”
The front desk smiled and said, “Ms. Davenport? Mr. Chapman asked me
to tell you to go straight up to see him in room 888.”
Paulette: ”
Why do we have to go upstairs again?
She thought Nelson would wait for her in the lobby.
Paulette frowned, said thanks, and walked towards the elevator.
The five–star hotel, even the corridor was filled with a faint fragrance. She followed the directions and found room 888. Standing at the door, she took a deep breath and rang the doorbell.
No one opened for half a day, so Paulette had to press it again.
A few seconds later, click.
Nelson’s tall figure emerged from behind the door, much to Paulette’s surprise…he looked like he had just taken a shower, with a loose bathrobe tied around him, water droplets dripping from the tips of his hair onto his

neck and collarbone, then trickling down his chest.
Paulette suddenly widened her eyes and quickly turned her back.
“Nelson, can’t you put on some clothes before answering the door?”

The man frowned and glanced at her, his voice deep and solemn, “What are you shy about with me? I’m not naked. Come in.”
Paulette pursed her lips and waited for him to leave before she plucked up the courage to go in.
After taking a shower, Nelson felt a lot calmer.
He went to the bathroom to get a towel to dry his hair. When he came out, he tied the bathrobe belt tighter. “Tell me, how did you come up with the idea of running all the way to Crireton with me on your back?”
Of course I wanted to leave him.
Paulette looked down at her fingers and didn’t say it directly, “I had to try to be independent. If I stayed in Fromond, I couldn’t help but… enjoy some of the care from you, Maxine, and Monty.”
Nelson stopped what he was doing, staring at her with unblinking eyes.
“Just because of this?”
“Um.”
Paulette forced a smile, “And aren’t you getting married? You should focus on your fiancee and future family, no need to worry about me.
What she said was true, little did she know that in Nelson’s ears, that was
the reason she came to Crireton alone.

Nelson furrowed his brow, annoyed, and tossed the towel aside.
“Is it really necessary, Paulette?”
With an angry tone, Paulette instinctively held her breath.

“If I hang out with someone else, you threaten to run away from home. So if I really get married, do you have to become a monk? What do you really want to do? You…”
The familiar words appeared again, and Paulette closed her eyes numbly.
She just wanted to ask Nelson, What does he really want from her?
When she was around, all I did was either blame her or warn her every day. Now that she’s completely gone, it’s still not okay.
Paulette couldn’t take it anymore, so she stood up with a whoosh.
“Nelson, you were just too full of yourself.”
Nelson was stunned, speechless for a moment.
Paulette continued, “I told you, I don’t like you anymore. When I don’t like someone, I won’t waste my time on them. Whether you get married or who you marry, it has nothing to do with me! Do you understand that?”
Nelson looked at the girl’s familiar face, and at that moment, there was no hint of defiance in those eyes, only seriousness, determination, and unwavering certainty.
He suddenly felt a tightness in his chest, as if a piece of flesh had been ripped out.
Didn’t have time to catch it, and that feeling disappeared without a trace.
His lip muscles twitched slightly twice, and words burst out from between

his lips.
“Are you sure?”
Paulette: “Yes, I’m sure.”

She looked him in the eye and said, “This is the last time I’ll say these words, Nelson. I’m grateful for you raising me, and I’ll repay you in my own way. But from now on… let’s just go our separate ways. We’re not really suited to living together.”
With Patricia around, everything is a mess, even without any other complications. It’s really unnecessary.
Nelson’s crimson eyes stared at her, not saying a word for a while, his heaving chest declaring his anger.
But Paulette was ready, just waiting for him to speak.
“Since you’ve already made up your mind, I have nothing more to say.”
Nelson’s hand clenched tightly at his side, his face pale with determination, “But I just want to remind you, don’t regret it.”
