She left him behind and never looked back again.
Chapter 15
Aaron was mid–conversation with Ben when his phone buzzed.
They’d been searching for Rachel for days, and still nothing.
Ben was blunt. “She vanished from your mating ceremony, Alpha Aaron. No luggage, no wallet, no trace. The police haven’t gotten a single call from her. You need to brace
yourself for the worst.”
Aaron refused to hear it.
When his phone lit up, he answered sharply. “Sam, what? I’m busy.”
“Aaron! I just saw your sister!”
The next eight hours of flying were a blur.
Sam’s news hit him like a punch–first confusion, then relief, then a tidal wave of
anger.
She’d left for Milan? Milan?
He’d had the airport records checked the second she disappeared, and her name wasn’t on any flight manifest.
But she was alive. That was enough–for now.
Still, the question burned: Why’d she leave without a word? If she wanted to chase her
dreams abroad, why hadn’t she told him?
Rachel had moved out of Edmund and Amanda’s place into a new apartment.
They’d been great, but she didn’t want to overstay her welcome.

Justin, being his usual awesome self, showed up to help her settle in.
She’d arrived in Milan with literally nothing but the clothes on her back, so her new place was a total blank canvas. Time for a shopping trip to spruce it up.
While browsing a cozy textile shop, her period decided to show up early–great timing.
She felt the telltale warmth but couldn’t exactly make a scene in the crowded store without turning it into a total cringe–fest.
“Here.”
A guy’s jacket appeared in front of her.
Justin smiled, casual as ever. “I’m kinda overheating. Mind holding my jacket for me?”
Rachel caught on instantly–he’d noticed but was playing it cool, giving her a way to
cover up without making it awkward.
Her cheeks flushed. “Thanks, Justin.”
He grinned. “See anything you like in here?”
She shook her head.
“Wanna hit up the next store?”
“Sure.”
Once they were out of the shop, Justin held up a finger. “Hang tight.”
He jogged off toward a nearby convenience store, returning in record time.
Slipping a small bag into her hand, he looked a little sheepish, his face tinged pink. “Uh, I wasn’t sure what brand you use. I don’t know much about this stuff, so I just grabbed
what the cashier recommended.”
Rachel squeezed the small bag in her hand, a warm flutter sparking in her chest.

“Thanks, this’ll do.”
“No prob. The restroom’s just down there on the left. I’ll wait here.”
Justin’s oversized jacket draped over her, swallowing her frame but perfectly covering the red stain on her pants.
His scent was different from Aaron’s–no fancy cologne, just a clean hint of mint and something like warm sunlight.
When Rachel stepped out of the restroom, Justin was still there, waiting patiently.
Justin had this gentle vibe–thoughtful, kind, the kind of guy who just made you feel safe. Completely different from Aaron. Night and day.
“Rachel, can I tell you something?”
“Sure, shoot.”
“I like you.”
Rachel looked up, eyes wide.
