Chapter 21
A pair of officers patrolling nearby immediately turned at the commotion and walked
over.
Aaron froze.
He hadn’t thought she’d actually go through with her threat. But she had–and now it
was too late to take it back.
One officer knocked firmly on the driver’s window. “Sir, step out of the vehicle.”
With no other choice, Aaron popped the locks. Both doors clicked open.
“We know each other, she’s my sister,” he said quickly, trying to explain. “It’s a
misunderstanding.”
But his stiff tone only raised more suspicion.
The officer turned to Rachel, eyes serious. “Ma’am, is that true?”
Rachel’s gaze didn’t waver. “We’re not blood–related. Just… raised in the same
household.”
Aaron’s heart sank. He turned sharply toward her, lips parting as if to say something—
but the cops weren’t interested in drama.
Rachel didn’t say another word until she watched Aaron being escorted away for further questioning. Only then did she leave.
The past had no place in the life she wanted. All she needed was a clean break.
Aaron, meanwhile, was stuck at the precinct for hours. Not until Adam arrived with
documentation to vouch for him did they finally let him go.
He stepped outside, sucking in the cold air like he’d been drowning.

?
Adam, sensing his mood, stayed quiet and out of the way.
Just then, Sierra showed up–perfect timing as always. Her mascara was already smudging from tears when she ran toward him.
“Aaron, you have to help me!” she cried. “They pushed me so far, I had no choice but to hide out overseas. But even here–they still found me. I don’t know what else to do…”
Her voice trembled like she was one breath away from breaking.
Aaron had no patience left.
“How much do you want this time?” he asked wearily.
Sierra’s face lit up, already calculating the number. But just as she opened her mouth,
Aaron’s phone buzzed.
He checked the screen–and everything shifted.
His expression went ice–cold. When he looked up again, his eyes were dead.
Sierra blinked, taken aback. “What’s wrong?”
He let out a low, bitter laugh. “When you sent those messages to Rachel… is this the same face you made?”
Sierra froze like she’d just been caught red–handed. She forced a dry, awkward smile. “What messages? Rachel’s been missing, remember? How would I have even contacted
her?”
But panic flickered behind her eyes. Rachel was supposed to be out of the picture for
good.
Aaron didn’t bother replying. He simply held up his phone, screen glowing with damning proof.
A moment ago, the private investigator he’d hired back home had finally made progress -pulling deleted data straight from Sierra’s old phone records. And now, the evidence

sat right there in his inbox.
Sierra stared at the messages she’d once sent Rachel–taunting, cruel, unmistakably hers. Her lips parted in panic. Then she tried to bluff it out. “Aaron, those aren’t from me. Someone’s clearly setting me up–Rachel, it has to be her. She’s always hated me
“Shut up.” Aaron’s voice cracked like thunder.
The silence that followed was suffocating.
His hand trembled as he gripped the phone. For a long moment, he simply stared down at her. Then he asked, voice sharp and low, “Was it you? Were you the reason she left the pack?”
Everything suddenly clicked into place. The details he once brushed off, the tension in
Rachel’s voice, the timing–it all lined up.
Sierra’s face drained of color.
She looked terrified, but still clung to the only lifeline she had. “Aaron, come on… I’ve
always liked her. Why would I ever want to hurt her…”
Her voice trailed off as she took in the ice–cold look on Aaron’s face.
This time, she knew she’d pushed too far.

Aaron felt like his skull was splitting from the weight of it all. Regret, fury, helplessness –all surging through him like a tide he couldn’t stop. But it was too late to change any
of it.
He turned away, voice hoarse. “I warned you. Rachel’s my line in the sand. You could’ve
played along with me, put on the show to push her into realizing how she felt–but you were never supposed to hurt her. Ever.”
He paused, jaw tightening.
“Now get out of my sight.”

Sierra flinched. She reached for his sleeve, but he yanked his arm away like her touch burned. Her fingers hovered in the air, useless, shaking.
“I didn’t mean to-” she started to cry.
Aaron didn’t spare her a second glance.
His phone rang again–it was one of the staff far from the packhouse.
He picked up. “What is it?”
The voice on the other end was cautious. “Alpha, the tech you hired just finished recovering the security footage. You were right. Someone triggered Rachel before she left.”
Aaron’s jaw clenched. “Who?”
A flicker of doubt crossed his mind. He continued speaking, but his eyes slowly shifted toward Sierra, as if seeking silent confirmation.
