Freya stared at Louis so intently that he felt a bit uncomfortable. “What’s wrong? And why are there so many dresses laid out?”
“Dude, help me out here. I haven’t attended a banquet in so long–I have no idea what styles are appropriate these days. These are the dresses I picked that I think might work. Take a look and tell me which one is best.” Freya didn’t even try to hide her cluelessness. Who knows if I’ll have to deal with this kind of situation again in the future? There’s no way to bluff my way through it, so I might as well be upfront and save myself the trouble later.
“Didn’t you used to insist on picking your own outfits?” Louis recalled the past and found it odd compared to the way she was acting now.
“Back then, everything changed so suddenly, and I was feeling sensitive. I thought choosing my own clothes was the only way to maintain some dignity. But now I’ve realized that a person is who they are–there’s no need to be so defensive. Trying too hard only makes people look down on you. It’s better to just admit I don’t know what I’m doing.”
“Seems like you’ve thought this through.”
“Then hurry up and pick one. I can’t decide.” Freya stepped aside, letting Louis examine the dresses she had laid out.
Seeing the relatively simple and elegant choices, Louis nodded inwardly. Whether she’s truly changed or just pretending, at least she’s not being stupid anymore. Unlike before, when she always picked flashy, over–the–top gowns that made her look like she was walking a runway, these choices were at least presentable.
After scanning through them, he casually pointed to the most conservative option–a long–sleeved black gown. “This one. It’s understated.”
Freya immediately realized that at this banquet, they might face some unpleasant situations. Dressing too extravagantly or too plainly could attract unnecessary trouble. Wearing something low–key was the safest option. Louis chose well.
“Alright, I’ll wear this one.” Once the decision was made, Freya set the black dress aside and packed away the rest. Since she had anticipated situations like this, she had kept all the unopened gowns in the original owner’s wardrobe.
Don’t TV dramas always say you can’t wear the same gown twice? If that’s true, I can’t just rotate between a few dresses and embarrass Louis.
Louis casually asked, “What about those brighter–colored gowns you used to have? Do you not have any others left?”
“Oh, I sold some of them. The ones I kept were all unopened. It took me a while to dig through them and find these toned- down options. Are they not suitable? If they aren’t, I can pull out a few more.”
“You only have this many in muted colors?” Louis glanced at the six dresses on the couch, looking a bit skeptical. “How many gowns do you have in total now?”
Freya had just gone through them earlier that morning. “Fourteen.”
“Including all styles?”
“Yeah, fourteen in total. That should be enough, right? Most of the others were already unsealed, so I put them up for sale. We probably won’t be attending too many banquets anyway, so I figured this number should be enough before selling the rest.”
Louis didn’t know what to say. “Alright, just don’t sell the rest. We might need them in the future.”
Forget it. If they’re sold, they’re sold.
