Chapter 4
On the living room couch. Kelly and Joshua were entwined together. She clutched his tie while passionately kissing him.
The man who had been watching a movie with her moments ago. showed no resistance. Instead, he wrapped his arms around Kelly’s waist, fully immersed in the kiss.
Suddenly, Joshua’s deep voice broke the silence, instructing. “Stick out your tongue.”
The large living room was very quiet, with only the sound of their bodies moving against each other and their kisses filling the air.
Caroline felt as if she had been plunged into an icy abyss. She stared at the scene in disbelief, feeling as though her insides were being ripped apart by powerful hands. Her entire body shook with pain.
She even questioned whether what she was witnessing was real. How could she be seeing Joshua, who had once vowed to love her forever, kissing another woman with such intense desire in his eyes?
The person responsible for her losing both legs and ruining her life was right there!
It felt like she had been hurled from the clouds into a frigid pool, nearly drowning in despair.
Before she could gather herself, the person on the couch sensed her presence and turned to look her way.
At that moment, she felt utterly defeated and quickly wheeled herself
away
Once outside AquaSky Estate, she paused on the road, the scenes she had just witnessed playing over and over in her mind. Sitting in her wheelchair. Caroline clutched her chest, frozen in shock. The pain was unbearable, yet she couldn’t shed a single tear.
It seemed that when agony reached its peak, tears simply wouldn’t
come.
She had never imagined that Joshua would betray her.
From childhood into adulthood, he was devoted to her with all his heart and eves.
He claimed that she was his one true love and it would always be that
way.
Though he had the capacity to fall out of love and change his feelings, why did he deceive her?
The agony was like a powerful flood, pulling her into the depths of the ocean. and leaving her overwhelmed.
Caroline even wondered if she was trapped in a nightmare.
She repeatedly pinched herself, hoping to wake up.
But the sharp pain constantly reminded her of the reality of the situation.
With trembling hands, she took out her phone and repeatedly examined the post, searching for every single detail within it.

It turned out that when he claimed to be attending a meeting. he was actually dining with Kelly.
It turned out that when he said he was on a business trip. he was actually having sex with Kelly.
It turned out that the reason he couldn’t let Kelly go was that he had fallen in love with her.
It turned out he had woven a web of lies all around him, and she had been completely unaware of it.
By the time she realized, rain began to fall, lightly tapping against her
skin.
Yet, Caroline didn’t even consider fleeing.
She stood numbly in the rain, her body trembling as if it no longer belonged to her.
She didn’t move. She simply sat by the roadside from dawn until dusk.
The soaked clothes finally dried by the time the sun rose the next day. Caroline’s face was ghostly white. From afar, she spotted Joshua sprinting toward her with desperation.
His eyes were bloodshot, hinting at a sleepless night. Upon seeing Caroline, he leaped out of the car frantically and enveloped her in a tight embrace.
“Carol, you scared me to death! Where have you been?”
As Caroline looked at him, memories of the previous day’s events flooded her mind, filling her with an overwhelming sense of nausea Her entire body shook violently, and she instinctively tried to push him
away.
Yet, with emotions suddenly overwhelming her, it felt like the
floodgates of her mind had burst open. The weariness from spending the entire night in the rain hit her hard. After just a few feeble attempts to resist, her vision went dark, and she collapsed.
When Caroline awoke, she found herself in the hospital.
Joshua was by her bedside, having stayed there to watch over her the entire time. He looked just as worn out, yet he clung to Caroline tightly, refusing to let go.
His voice shook with fear as he hugged her. “Carol, did you run out because you were upset with me for not finishing the movie with you yesterday? I’m so sorry. It’s my fault. You can hit me, yell at me. No matter how serious things get in the future, I promise I won’t leave you again, alright?
“Please, forgive me. Don’t ignore me.”
He pleaded for her forgiveness, almost diminishing himself in the
process.
As Caroline remained in his embrace, tears she had held back for so long finally started to flow.
She could sense Joshua’s genuine nervousness, panic, and fear, and she knew his love for her was sincere.
However, it was also true that he had kissed Kelly without her knowing.
She thought to herself, “Joshua.

“My heart belongs solely to you.
“How could you possibly love two women at once?”
Her sobs intensified, making it difficult for her to breathe. Joshua, alarmed by her distress, repeatedly apologized and even knelt down.
Suddenly, she shoved him away, wrapped herself in the quilt, and fell silent.
Joshua was bewildered, unsure of what he had done wrong. He
remained by Caroline’s side more attentively than ever, watching over her constantly.
Despite his efforts, she stayed quiet and refused to interact with
anyone.
Six months ago, after she lost her legs, she went through a tough period.
Back then, she suffered from phantom limb pain almost daily. The intense agony would make her cry and act out, and she ended up destroying the entire room.
Joshua stayed by her side throughout, helping her through that challenging time
Now, he believed Caroline was experiencing another emotional breakdown because of her disability.
He stayed with her in the hospital for three days, but Caroline remained silent.
Eventually, Joshua could no longer cope and fainted from exhaustion.
Andrew hurried over with the doctor and shot Caroline a reproachful glance.
“Ms. Rennie, please stop tormenting Mr. Kimble. He genuinely cares about you. The night you didn’t return, he was beside himself with worry and spent the entire night searching for you by himself on the streets. In the past few days, he hasn’t left your side at the hospital for a single moment. Even a machine wouldn’t withstand such strain. If you keep ignoring him, it might truly break him!”
