Chapter 5
Andrew was clueless about the reasons and consequences of the situation. All he could observe was Joshua’s intense love for Caroline.
Caroline watched in silence as the doctor placed the unconscious person onto a stretcher and wheeled them away. Her throat was parched, leaving her speechless.
She thought, “Who was really suffering here? Who could understand her agony?”
She shut her eyes, and although she was simply lying on the bed, a wave of pain engulfed her entire being.
Her tears soaked a large portion of the bedsheet. Who could come to her rescue? She felt as if she was on the brink of collapse.
When Joshua regained consciousness, he saw Caroline sitting in a wheelchair, her eyes red from crying.
The moment he awoke, he clasped her hand. “Carol!”
Caroline finally spoke to him, saying, “I want to go home.”
Seeing her no longer resist, Joshua was elated and embraced her tightly. “Alright, let’s go home, let’s go home.”
Caroline stared ahead with a vacant expression and didn’t resist.
Because of what she had said, Joshua didn’t wait for his own recovery before bringing her home.
Upon their discharge from the hospital, he carried her from the ward to the car waiting outside.
Along the way, doctors and nurses remarked that they had never seen such a devoted man before.
Despite being showered with attention, Caroline’s face remained expressionless.
Once they arrived home, Joshua gently laid her on the bed.
“Was it dull staying in the hospital all this time? Grandpa’s birthday banquet is the day after tomorrow. I’ll take you out, so you can unwind,” he suggested.
Caroline remained silent, neither agreeing nor opposing.
Joshua sighed, stroked her hair softly, and held her close.
Two days later at the Kimble’s manor, Henry Kimble’s birthday banquet was a lively affair.
Dressed in a green dress, Caroline was accompanied by Joshua as he wheeled her in.
The moment they entered, all eyes turned towards her, yet no one dared to gossip because Joshua was beside her.
Some wondered if Caroline was lucky or not. Despite her disability, she seemed even more cherished.
Joshua fended to her with great care throughout the event.
Caroline remained mostly silent, speaking only when she presented Henry with his birthday gift
“Sir Kimble, I wish you great fortune and good health,” she said.
Having watched them grow up, Henry looked at Caroline’s legs with at sigh and quietly accepted the gift.
Caroline realized that since her car accident, she wasn’t the ideal choice to marry into the Kimble family anymore.
However, Joshua was so determined to marry her that he was even willing to go against his family for her sake. His bold actions left no one daring to oppose them.
Despite his devotion, Joshua had social obligations and couldn’t always be by her side.
Caroline was wheeled into the garden, where she gazed at the moonlight rising outside.
Since the accident, the world had appeared dull and colorless to her.
Suddenly, faint whispers reached her from the nearby corridor.
“What does he see in someone who’s disabled? Joshua must be out of his mind.”
“Caroline is so shameless for not calling off the engagement under these circumstances.”
“But she is truly beautiful. It wouldn’t hurt to have a taste. Do you think if I tied her to the bed, she wouldn’t be able to escape?”
“Hahaha.”
The crude, mocking laughter of the men echoed, and Caroline felt a chill spreading through her hands and feet.

Suddenly, the laughter gave way to the sounds of punching and kicking, interspersed with shouts,
“Joshua, stop hitting them!”
Instinctively, Caroline maneuvered her wheelchair toward the commotion.
A crowd had gathered at the far end of the corridor, where Joshua, having heard the men’s derogatory remarks about Caroline, was pinning one of them to the floor and mercilessly beating him.
His veins stood out on his face as he delivered each powerful punch, his hands stained with blood.
It took four or five people to finally pull him off.
With a dark expression, he glared at the nearly unconscious men and warned, “If you dare speak like that again, I’ll destroy you!”
Then he noticed Caroline nearby and hurried over anxiously.
He was on the verge of embracing her when he noticed his hands were stained with blood
He pulled them back and accepted a tissue from the maid, wiping his hands nonchalantly.
“Caroline, were you frightened?”
In that instant, Caroline was reminded of Joshua at 18
Back then, he was wild and had beaten a boy who frequently bothered her nearly to the point of death.
Yet, he would tenderly ask her, “Carol, did I scare you?”
Just then, Joshua’s phone rang again.
His expression shifted, and he didn’t have time to comfort her. “Carol, I’ll arrange for someone to take you home. I have an urgent matter and must leave immediately.”
