Chapter 7
After taking a few pills, she realized the pain intensified.
She poured out three more… then five… and eventually ten pills.
Finally, an entire bottle of pills scattered across the floor, and she suddenly coughed up blood.
That day, Joshua still couldn’t locate Kelly.
She was enjoying the game of playing hard to get. Just by offering a small lure, she had already stirred up trouble.
Joshua continued to send numerous people to search for her every day, while the preparations for his wedding with Caroline progressed smoothly.
As the news of their wedding spread widely, Kelly finally felt she couldn’t remain idle any longer.
Instead of going to Joshua, she took the initiative to visit Azure Bay and sought out Caroline.
In the expansive villa, Kelly and Caroline faced each other.
Kelly’s body bore numerous scars, marks left by Joshua when she was initially confined at Azure Bay.
Yet, remarkably, just six months later, Joshua had gone to great lengths to locate her and bring her back, as if the thought of losing her was unbearable.
“Caroline, I know you’ve been reading my posts.” Kelly stated bluntly, a triumphant smile playing on her lips.
Over the past few months, people accused her of creating drama, but only one person consistently viewed and eagerly awaited each update of her posts.
She knew that that person would be none other than Caroline.
“How does it feel to watch your lover slowly fall for someone else?”
Kelly taunted, but Caroline remained silent, offering no reaction.
Caroline appeared delicate and frail due to her disability. Yet. Kelly‘ felt somewhat overshadowed by her.
Despite having pursued Joshua for years, this woman had effortlessly captured his heart.
Why?
As she stared at Caroline’s blank expression, a flicker of bitterness crossed Kelly’s eyes, followed by a mirthless chuckle.
“Caroline, tell me, he’s been loudly announcing your marriage plans around town. Is it truly because he wants to marry you, or is it just to provoke me?”
Hearing this, Caroline’s grip on her wheelchair tightened slightly.
It was as if the truth she least wanted to acknowledge had been laid bare, causing her face to turn pale instantly.
Breaking through her vulnerability, Kelly let out a victorious laugh
Of course, how could she not be fragile?
The teenager who had been resolute about marrying her at 16 had now turned their wedding into a tool to manipulate another woman.
Kelly slowly approached as hurried footsteps echoed from behind her.
As Joshua burst through the door, Kelly suddenly withdrew the dagger she had concealed.
He shook violently and shouted, “Kelly, if you dare harm her, I’ll kill you!”
But instead of targeting Caroline, Kelly pressed the dagger to her own
chest.
With tears in her eyes, Kelly turned to face him. The triumph in her expression had vanished, replaced by wild laughter as she said, “Joshua, how could I harm your precious one? I know you despise me for injuring her legs. Since you refuse to let me go, I’ll return my life to her. Is this what you want?”
With those words, she raised the dagger and plunged it into her chest.
Joshua’s face immediately reflected sheer panic, and his voice shook as much as before.
“No!” he cried.
But it was too late–Kelly had already plunged the dagger into her body with force. In a frenzy, he dashed over, shoving Caroline aside, and scooped up the blood–soaked Kelly.
“Kelly! You can’t die. You can’t die!” he shouted as he hurriedly carried her out, oblivious to the fact that Caroline’s wheelchair had
oblivious to the fact that Caroline
been knocked over, leaving her on the floor.
Her legs ached with a burning sensation, and she gazed vacantly at the doorway, feeling as though her heart had shattered into countless fragments.
Unable to stand, she lay there helplessly, uncertain of how long she remained in such a pitiful state.
Ultimately, when the household staff returned, she noticed the chaos on the floor and assisted Caroline to her feet.
“Oh, Ms. Rennie, why are you so careless? Mr. Kimble will be devastated if he sees this.”
Caroline, her face marked with dried tears, gave a bitter laugh at the
comment.
Yet, just moments ago, he had left more decisively than anyone else.
Chapter 8
It wasn’t until late at night that Joshua returned home and learned that Kelly was out of danger.
Upon entering, he noticed the bruises on Caroline’s body and heard. from the household staff that she had fallen that day.
In the room, he embraced her, repeatedly apologizing.
“Carol. I’m sorry. Things were so urgent then, that I didn’t notice you. Can you forgive me?”
Caroline kept her eyes tightly shut and remained silent, her hands and feet growing cold.
No matter how much Joshua tried to comfort her, all she could picture was him carrying Kelly away.
After what felt like an eternity–long enough for Joshua to think she had drifted off–he gently placed her on the bed.
At that moment, news arrived from the hospital that Kelly’s condition. had suddenly worsened.
Even with her
is closed, Caroline sensed Joshua’s gaze on her.
He might have been conflicted, but ultimately, his attention shifted.
away.
Caroline listened to his footsteps as he departed, and even when they faded into silence, she kept her eyes shut.
