Chapter 2
“You!” Isaac’s veins bulged in his forehead as he choked on his words.
“Ugh…”
Suddenly, Vivian clapped a hand over her mouth, dry heaving as tears streamed down her face.
Isaac rushed to her side, his voice anxious. “Vivian, are you alright? Is it bad?”
“I’m fine, Isaac…….”
She clung to his sleeve, trembling, her tear–filled eyes fixed on me.
“Lori, this is all my fault. I never wanted to stay in your home, but I truly have nowhere else to go. I–I swear, as soon as the baby’s born, I’ll leave right away. I’ll never bother you and Isaac again.”
As she spoke, she cradled her belly and broke into sobs.
“Baby, I’m sorry. I don’t want to leave you, but I did something wrong, and I have to accept the consequences. I’m so, so sorry…”
Her words dissolved into another fit of retching, her whole body collapsing into Isaac’s arms.
Isaac shot me a look filled with hatred as if I had committed an unforgivable crime.
“Are you satisfied now?”
I let out a cold, derisive laugh and turned to leave.

Chapter 2
My attitude finally pushed Isaac over the edge.

He suddenly grabbed a glass from the table and hurled it at me with all his strength.
A sharp pain exploded at the back of my head, followed by the sound of shattering glass, and I tumbled hard down the stairs.
The stabbing pain made cold sweat break out all over my body–I couldn’t stand up.
J’Quit faking it! Get up already!” Isaac snapped impatiently from behind
- me.
Vivian approached, feigning concern.
“Lori, are you… are you sure you’re okay? I saw the glass only grazed your shoulder…”
“Shut up!” I cut her off through gritted teeth, forcing myself to stand.
Seeing how harshly I treated Vivian, Isaac’s expression turned icy.
“Vivian’s lost her appetite. Go make her your famous creamy fish chowder –and don’t put in any onions. She doesn’t like them.”
“I’m not making it.” I refused without hesitation.
“That’s an order!” Isaac’s face was dark and menacing. “Lori, do you really think you have a choice?”
I clenched my fists and stared him down.
“I’m not making it. What are you going to do about it?”
A flash of coldness passed through Isaac’s eyes. He strode over, grabbed my arm roughly, and shoved me into the kitchen.

Chapter 2
Slam!
The door banged shut behind me.
“You’re not coming out until that soup is done!”
“Isaac, you’re insane!”

I pounded on the door with all my strength, screaming at the top of my lungs, “Let me out!” But all I got in return was silence.
My palms became red and swollen from the pounding. Finally, I slid helplessly to the floor, leaning against the cold door.
Through the door, I could hear their conversation as clearly as day.
Vivian’s voice was soft and delicate. “Isaac, isn’t this too much? If Lori doesn’t want to cook, she doesn’t have to. I really don’t need the soup…”
Isaac let out a sigh.
“Vivian, she’s been spoiled by the Hoffman family for so many years. I need to break her princess attitude. If she’s going to marry into the Wilcox family, she has to follow our rules–otherwise, how can she raise our child properly?”
“The Wilcox family has always been a family of doctors. We value kindness and harmony above all. But Lori’s too blunt… My mom’s never really liked her.”
Vivian asked softly, puzzled, “Isaac, then why don’t you just break up with her?“~
