Laila injected me with a heavy dose of anesthesia, and I was too weak to fight back. I was taken straight into surgery.
After they took my kidney, she dumped me at the edge of the forest.
Dad made a full recovery after receiving my kidney, but everyone believed it was Laila who had made the sacrifice.
When I finally healed enough to stumble back into my home, the first thing I got was a slap across the face from my furious mother.
“Zora, how could you be so heartless and ungrateful?” she questioned, her eyes thick with disappointment. “You promised to donate your kidney, yet ran off right before the surgery, Do you have any idea how close your father came to dying because of you?”
“But I didn’t run away!” I cried, trying to explain. “Laila kidnapped me, and I was the one who donated the kidney. She took mine and dumped me by the forest. I just managed to escape today…”
I lifted my shirt, trying to show her the scar on my waist. But after days of recovery, the wound had already healed. There was nothing left to see.
Bursting into tears, Laila walled, “Zora, how could you slander me like this? I’m the one who gave Dad my kidney, while you were the coward who ran away. Now you’re trying to take credit for what I did!”
She lifted her own shirt and showed a long, angry scar across her waist.
Clearly distressed, Mom pulled Laila’s clothes down gently. Then she swerved toward me and barked, “Zora, I’m so disappointed in you! Get out. A heartless and deceitful woman like you doesn’t deserve to be my daughter!”
On the day I left home, I met my mate, Simon.
It wasn’t until our marking ceremony that my parents finally forgave me. But by then, their love for me was gone. All their affection went to Laila.
