Chapter 2
Over the years, I’ve been secretly poached by many big companies in the industry because of my excellent work ability.
The Starlight Group is one of them. Before that, they reached out to me more than once, offering me a salary and benefits that are currently three times higher.
But I worked my butt off for Bradley, giving my all to his company and grinding it out until now.
In the end, I was left with nothing but “beating a dead horse.”
Now, it’s time for me to start planning for my future.

“Ms. Owens, you finally came to your senses! Can you come in tomorrow to complete the onboarding process?”
“No problem.”
After hanging up the phone, I started packing my bags, ready to move out of here and “cut ties with Bradley.”
When I was getting some documents, I unexpectedly found the jade sculpture I hand–carved for Bradley in the corner.
This was the birthday gift I gave him, every cut engraved with my care and love for him.
I remember Bradley’s first reaction when he received this jade sculpture – he was all smiles and said it was the most meaningful birthday gift he had ever
received.
After seeing the numerous cuts on my hand, he tenderly brought a first aid kit to clean my wounds, promising to treasure this gift.
But now, the jade sculpture is just left in a corner gathering dust, while the sandalwood box he bought specifically to hold the jade sculpture is filled with photos of him and Iris.
Thick as thieves, from spring to deep winter, from blooming flowers to ice and snow, different backgrounds but the inseparable duo.
Just like our relationship, ever since Iris showed up, Bradley hasn’t had a place for me in his eyes or heart.
I should have realized earlier that trying to win back someone who has changed their mind, saving a deteriorating relationship is just a pipe dream.
Thinking about it, I decisively threw the dusty jade sculpture into the trash can.
Jade sculpture is, so is a person.
After throwing it away, I continued to bury myself in packing up my luggage.
Not much stuff, cleaned up quickly.
It’s funny, I lived in this house for six years, but my belongings couldn’t even fill a small suitcase.
But even so, after packing up, this home still felt a lot colder.
After that, I grabbed my luggage, took a taxi back to my old bachelor apartment that I bought before getting married.
I just moved in with Bradley later on to take care of him, so this apartment was left empty. I bought it and renovated it, but didn’t really live in it.

After I had settled my luggage, I was about to find the housekeeper for cleaning, but suddenly Bradley’s call popped up.
I thought he would come down on me hard, but surprisingly he was quite gentle in his tone when he spoke.
“Monica, stop it. Today you hurt Iris, but she’s kind and won’t hold it against you.”
“You rested well at home in the afternoon, and tomorrow you’re going to the company to assist Iris, helping her with the project.”
“Three days later we’ll get the marriage certificate and have the wedding, that’s settled, right?”
When I heard the conditions for getting married, I just felt ironic in my heart.

Over the years, I have hoped more than once to put the wedding on the agenda earlier, but Bradley always made excuses and kept delaying it due to the company’s development.
In the company, he tried to avoid gossip and steer clear of me.
Not only did he never allow me to call him “Brady” affectionately at work, but he also didn’t let me ride in his car to and from work.
I didn’t want to put him in a difficult position, so I quietly dated him underground for six years.
Over the years, I have been getting up early every day and taking the subway to work.

“Iris, don’t worry. With me around, Monica won’t bully you anymore.”
Bradley quickly and gently soothed him, with that patient tone, as if he was her boyfriend.
I grimaced in disgust and interrupted, “Let me be her assistant? She, Iris, too?”
“Since you think Iris is so great, why do you need an assistant? I’m sure he can handle the project on his own, right?”
Bradley frowned and said angrily, “Monica, are you kidding me? I agreed to marry you and get a marriage certificate, what else do you want?”
“You had the chance but you didn’t cherish it, don’t regret it!”
After saying that, he hung up the phone.
I didn’t pay attention to this little incident, just kept looking for a cleaner to clean the apartment.
After tidying up, I was lying on the sofa reading industry news when Iris suddenly popped up a video call invitation.
After getting through, Iris sat in Bradley’s office chair, smugly playing with her nails and taking pictures of the surroundings.
“Monica, Brady had me come to his office to work overtime and even helped me pour water. Have you ever experienced this kind of treatment?”
Bradley has always been a clean freak, he hates it when people touch things in his office.
Before, there was an employee who didn’t know any better, went in to deliver some files to Bradley, he found out and got really mad, and just fired the
employee on the spot.
I wasn’t even allowed to enter without permission.
It seems like Iris is really the exception.
Iris saw me silent and said smugly, “Brady has handed over all your projects to me, making me the deputy general manager, fully taking over from you. You, my friend, are destined to be a loser!”
I sneered, “Oh really? Then you better work hard and try to bankrupt Brady’s company as soon as possible.”
“Monica, you’re such a bitch!”
Iris was about to curse angrily when suddenly there was a sound of the door being pushed open over there.
The next second, the video was cut off immediately!
I sarcastically shook my head, “If Bradley really trusts Iris to handle all the projects, we’re screwed.”
The next morning, I went to the Starlight Group for an interview and promised to start as soon as possible.
On the way back, I heard two familiar voices in my ears.
“Brady, it looks like there’s some event going on over there, looks like a lot of fun, wanna go check it out?”
Turning around, it was Bradley and Iris.

There was a kissing contest for couples on the street, and the winning couple could take home a rice cooker.
Iris got excited all of a sudden, grabbed Bradley and shook him from side to side, coquettishly saying, “Brady, let’s go too, okay?”
I just knew Bradley would say no, he hates these kinds of events.
I didn’t expect that Bradley would give Iris a doting smile.
“Okay, I’ll go with you.”
He held hands with Iris and went up on stage to sign up.
As the host’s whistle blew, Iris reached out and wrapped her arm around Bradley’s neck, blushing.
The onlookers didn’t mind their own business and joined in the fun, making a commotion.
“Give me a kiss, give me a kiss!”
Bradley’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and the next second, he grabbed Iris by the back of her head and passionately kissed her.
After a long time, the two of them finally parted ways with Iris unwilling to leave.
At one point, the atmosphere was heated, and everyone started clinking their glasses together.
“These young couple just started dating, right? Love is in the air, so sweet!”
“They were a perfect match, a match made in heaven. It’s true that seeing others happy can bring tears to your eyes! You must cherish each other forever!”
I sarcastically pulled the corners of my mouth.
Remember that time when I wanted Bradley to take selfies with me, but he said it was boring? He even lectured me, saying we’re not young anymore and there’s no need to act like kids.
But now, he was willing to kiss Iris in public.
He just thought I was immature and not worthy.
I was too lazy to stick around and watch them being all lovey–dovey, so I lifted my foot to leave. But in the moment I turned around, I locked Bradley.
