Chapter 13
Kaylee’s POV
Meanwhile, Jax did a tell–all interview of his own.[]
He admitted that all eighteen tracks were written with me in mind.[]
“She ghosted me with this BS story about getting married.[]
“So I figured, if she ever showed up at one of my concerts with her supposed husband, I’d perform those sickeningly sweet love songs while staring directly at her…]
“Her husband would lose his mind.
“Then I’d swoop in and win her back.“]
Social media had a field day:[]

[The audacity is breathtaking.]
[This literally makes no sense.]
[But I’m lowkey obsessed with this toxic mess…]

Luckily, Jax’s brand had always been unapologetically messy, so this revelation barely registered as scandalous.[]
After the media circus died down, I stepped out of my apartment one morning to find Jax leaning against his car, hiding behind
oversized shades.
He looked me up and down: “Damn, why are you all dressed up?“]
I smirked: “Got a hot date.“]
Jax looked like he’d been punched: “With who? Some dude I need to-“]
I cut him off: “Just messing with you. Wanted to see you squirm.“]
Jax stared blankly, then his face flushed with anger.
“You think playing mind games is funny?” he snapped. “You lied to ditch me three years ago, you’re lying now–at this point I’m just asking to be played for a fool…“]
I interrupted: “Though technically it could be a date.“[]

Chapter 13
“Selena texted me you were coming by, so I made an effort.“[]
He stopped mid–rant.
“Jax, my name is Kaylee Taylor, I’m twenty–four…“[]
Before I could continue my mock introduction, Jax frantically cut in:[]
“I’m in!”
“In what?”
“Marriage! Let’s do it!“]
“Aren’t we just on a first date?” he grabbed my hand. “Date successful! Moving on to the wedding phase!“]
Me: “…”
That’s one way to skip the entire relationship development stage.
“Don’t overthink it,” Jax pulled me down the sidewalk at a half–run. “Once we’re legally tied down, you can’t bail on me again, right?“||]
