Chapter 6
After descending from Marcy Mountain, Maggie took the time to say proper goodbyes to all the supervisors.
Turning around, she only saw Albert. He pointed toward a shop and said, “Jeffrey went to grab some water.”
Maggie nodded in acknowledgement.
Albert, being quite talkative, started speaking casually, “This trip, visiting the Marcy Mountain, was just a bonus. The real reason I came was to help with the opening test for the DeepSpace Science & Art Museum, a branch of the Stellaris Planetarium. This is a project your boyfriend has been working on for five years, and it’s opening tomorrow. You’ll definitely be there.”
Maggie remembered seeing Jeffrey browse the Stellaris Planetarium website earlier but didn’t think much of it. She simply replied, “He didn’t mention this to me, and I have a meeting tomorrow afternoon, so I won’t be able to make it.
Albert was taken aback, then quickly pulled out a ticket from his bag and casually said, “Oh, he probably forgot. You’re his girlfriend, how could you not be there?”
Maggie took the ticket, confused.
When Jeffrey returned, he handed her a bottle of water and casually asked, “What did Albert say to you earlier?”
Maggie shook her head without thinking. “Nothing.”
The next morning, Maggie sat on the sofa, watching Jeffrey, who had

been busy since he woke up.
He put on a high–end custom–made suit, the kind he only wore for award ceremonies, looking as though he was preparing for a wedding.
“I have something to do today, so I might be late coming back.”
Before leaving, Jeffrey remembered to tell her these words.
It was clear that he hadn’t planned on inviting her to the opening
ceremony.
Maggie felt a twinge of sadness but remained composed, saying, “Okay, I hope the opening goes smoothly.”
Jeffrey paused for a moment. “How did you know…”
Before he could finish, his phone rang.
He glanced at it briefly and then quickly moved on, answering the call in a soft and considerate tone, “You’re here? So soon, I was planning to pick you up earlier…”
Amber’s cold voice echoed from the other end of the line, though it was somewhat muffled.
The door to the house was closed, cutting off the remaining sounds.
Maggie pulled the ticket from her bag and stared at it for a long
moment.
い
Finally, she called her assistant and said, “Please reschedule my afternoon meeting. I won’t be able to make it. Something’s come up.”
At two o’clock in the afternoon, Maggie entered the Stellaris Planetarium.

It had been five years since her last visit.
The reason she came the last time was that Jeffrey planned to confess his love to Amber at the old Stellaris Planetarium.
Back then, Maggie had stood among the crowd, and no one knew that she was the one who had arranged the confession’s setting.
What about today?
Would there be a main character at such a significant event?
The opening ceremony began, and Maggie found a spot to stand.
When the lights illuminated the stage, Jeffrey walked on.
He stood tall and confident, exuding an air of charisma that had the female audience murmuring.
Jeffrey took the microphone from the host and said, “This science and art museum, themed around deep space, is a collaborative project between the New York government and our DeepSpace Exploration Laboratory, an initiative dedicated to making space science more accessible to the public.
“It took me five years to complete this project.”
While speaking, he glanced at Amber in the crowd, his voice softer and more captivating, “I once promised someone we’d explore the mysteries of the universe together. We lost touch for five years, and this art museum is my way of welcoming her back.
“Amber, thank you for being here today.”
A wave of applause filled the room, and the audience was deeply moved.

Maggie, however, stood motionless amidst the clapping crowd, staring blankly as Jeffrey escorted Amber onto the stage. The two embraced beneath the spotlight.
Unable to watch any longer, she turned away and came face to face with Albert, who looked uncomfortable.
Albert observed the ongoing hug on stage before shifting his gaze to Maggie. He opened his mouth to speak, but she calmly passed him by and walked away, as if she had never been there.
She left the Stellaris Planetarium and headed back to her office.
Had she known this would happen, she would have stayed for the meeting.
After work, Maggie drove home.
As soon as she parked, she saw Jeffrey and Amber walking together, their figures illuminated by the faint glow of the streetlights near the building.
“Oh, right,” Maggie suddenly recalled.
Jeffrey had helped Amber find a house after she returned to the country. It was in the unit next to theirs.
Maggie approached slowly, overhearing their conversation.
Amber said with a hint of shyness, “I really appreciate your gift. I love it.”
Jeffrey spoke softly, his tone as soothing as a gentle breeze, “I’m just happy that you like it.”
The two of them strolled downstairs in silence, and at the moment of parting, Jeffrey stood there watching her as she made her way upstairs.

But Amber didn’t move. She bit her lower lip and instead said softly, “It’s so late already, having you walk me home like this, I really feel bad about it.
“If Maggie knew about this, she’d probably come after you and stir up trouble again.”
Jeffrey furrowed his brow slightly.
Just as Amber was quietly basking in her triumph, Maggie’s icy voice cut through behind her, “I don’t mind.”
