Chapter 11
“Miss Caldwell, save us!” the handless man begged. “You promised us money to ruin Wendy! We don’t want the payment anymore, please beg Mr. Caldwell for mercy–we don’t want to die!”
Lena let out a terrified scream, her usual gentleness completely gone. “Get away from me! I don’t know you! I never did those things!” She dropped to her knees, clutching Ethan’s leg desperately.
“Ethan, it must be Wendy who bribed them to frame me! We grew up together–you know me better than anyone! How could I ever do something like that?”
“Grew up together…” Ethan repeated the words, his eyes growing colder. “Back when the Caldwell family was in crisis, when Dad was critically ill, you left without hesitation to pursue your freedom abroad. Now that I’ve inherited the family business and built Caldwell Corporation into what it is today, you suddenly want to come back.”
“No, Ethan, I truly love you! And I never did anything to hurt Wendy!” Lena shook her head frantically.
Ethan raised his hand and flung the evidence collected by his bodyguards directly into her face.
“Still lying through your teeth?”
Lena had thought Ethan only uncovered her scheme of hiring these men to take revenge on Wendy.
But when she saw the testimonies from the doctor and the waiter, along with the investigation into her romantic history abroad, she collapsed to the floor, utterly defeated.
Ethan stared at the foster sister he once believed to be innocent, his eyes now filled with nothing but disgust.

“You know damn well that nothing happened between us that night when I was drunk! You were so desperate to
abortion not because you were considerate, but because it’s illegal abroad. Once the baby was born, your lies would’ve been exposed!” His voice rose sharply, his bloodshot eyes brimming with tears.
“You used that child to frame Wendy over and over, causing my son’s death and driving Wendy away from me in despair. How could you be so vicious?!” Tears streamed down Ethan’s face, his expression twisted in anguish and regret.
“And I–this utter fool–killed my own son and drove away my wife for the sake of some bastard child! Ha… hahahaha!” Ethan threw his head back and laughed hysterically, the sound bordering on madness.
Suddenly, his laughter stopped. A flicker of clarity flashed through his clouded eyes.
“Tell me,” he murmured, his voice eerily calm, “if I can prove the child in your belly isn’t mine, will my wife and son come back to me?”
Lena was terrified by his deranged demeanor, scrambling backward in panic. “Y–you–what are you going to do?”
Á gentle smile curled on Ethan’s lips as he crouched down, his slender fingers tracing the curve of her swollen belly with unsettling tenderness.
“I’ll take a knife,” he whispered, “and slice open this delicate skin. Let’s see if the child inside is mine.”
“Ethan!” Lena’s face was drenched in tears, as if she were the victim of some unspeakable injustice. “I admit it–I was jealous of Wendy! Jealous that she had all your love! I did hurt her, but I never betrayed you!”
She grabbed Ethan’s hand, pressing the knife against her own belly. “If you really don’t believe me, then cut me open yourself! Use your own child’s life to prove my innocence!”
Lena refused to believe that their years of growing up together meant nothing.
all, he had divorced Wendy for her, held a grand wedding for her, and taken her on a honeymoon.
She refused to believe he could truly bring himself to hurt her.

But in the next second, Ethan’s wrist flexed, and the blade plunged into her abdomen without hesitation.
“Ugh-“Lena grunted in pain, the delayed agony overwhelming her, nearly suffocating her.
