She took out her phone and called the lawyer she had just spoken to. The call was quickly connected, and she was the first to speak.
“Mr. Reilly, the divorce agreement has been signed. When can I get the divorce certificate?”
On the phone, Mr. Reilly also seemed surprised that the agreement was signed so quickly. However, his professional demeanor as a lawyer suppressed his curiosity, and he replied, “If we follow the procedure, it will still take a month.”
Once Adeline got the accurate timing, she handed over all the divorce matters to her lawyer. After hanging up the phone, she set a thirty–day countdown
on her mobile.
That night, Brent stayed in the study.
The next day, when Adeline walked out of the room, she happened to see him wearing a suit, looking like he was ready to go out.
Seeing her come out, his actions paused for a moment and then returned to normal.
“I had something to do today, so I couldn’t accompany you to the prenatal check–up. Can you go by yourself? I’ll bring you your favorite strawberry cake later when I come back.”
Prenatal check–up?
Adeline sarcastically thought to herself, “The child is already gone, so who needs prenatal check–ups anymore?”
But she looked at Brent standing at the door, and in the end, she didn’t say anything, just nodded. However, he didn’t leave, instead, he pointed at his face.
She seemed to have not understood his meaning, still standing in place. Seeing that she did not react, he spoke, “Did you forget the farewell kiss?”
That was a promise made when the two of them had just gotten married, during the honeymoon phase. Every time Brent went out, Adeline would give
him a farewell kiss.
But at that moment, she just shook her head and said, “Aren’t you in a hurry? Just go ahead.”
“The little girl becomes less clingy as she grows up,” Brent chuckled for a moment, but he didn’t insist on a farewell kiss anymore. He simply walked out
of the door.
Not long after he left, Adeline changed her clothes and went out. However, she didn’t go to the hospital but instead went to Devon Moran’s lecture.
I heard that he just returned to his home country and gave a lecture at school today.
When Adeline arrived, it was already a bit late. People were gradually coming out of the auditorium, and as they walked past her, she could still hear their
discussions.
“Devon is amazing! He won the Nobel Prize at such a young age. His research achievements are astonishing!”
“Yeah, this lecture was really worth coming to.”

Adeline walked against the crowd into the auditorium, where not everyone had left yet. The remaining people were gathered together, and the surrounding them in the center was none other than Devon, the protagonist who organized this lecture.

There were too many people surrounding him. She watched for a while and, seeing that the crowd was not dispersing, she prepared to leave first.
Just as she turned around, she heard a voice full of surprise calling out her name. She looked back and saw Devon struggling to make his way out of the
crowd.
“Adele, long time no see.”
She curved her eyebrows and eyes, revealing a smile towards him, “Devon, long time no see.”
After exchanging pleasantries for a while, Adeline hesitated before getting to the point, “Devon, I would like to join your research institute. Is it possible?”
Upon hearing this, Devon immediately nodded in excitement.
“Sure, of course!”

“Adele, you were the genius girl in the school back then, skipping several grades as soon as you entered. It’s just that your family thought it was too hard for you and didn’t agree with you doing scientific research, so the teacher reluctantly gave me this position. If you hadn’t left back then, this position would have been yours, and the Nobel Prize would have been yours too!”
With that said, he looked at Adeline with some concern and asked, “But our research institutes are all abroad, will your family agree?”
Adeline smiled and said, “Back then, my parents believed that girls shouldn’t have to work too hard, so they arranged a reliable marriage for me.
However, I am now preparing for a divorce, so I can live the life I want.”
